I just did a free week with Riders Pilates Club. It was FAB! Really geared to the issues riders have. Very astute. It was as much about gently teaching muscles to switch off as it was about stretching or building strength and stability.

You could join for free and do a couple of sessions today.

Get your space on the FREE Challenge now! (riderpilatesclub.com)

I have signed up for three 6 week courses, when I had originally intended to just to the free week. I had no idea it would be as helpful as it has been.

I have no other connection with this company! I just found it good.

Our riding club has been doing courses for pilates for riding, one finished before Christmas and another started this month at local village hall. They have been very well supported.
A taster session was back at RC camp in summer and that's what got a good number booked in.
Once I'm fit enough, I hope to have a try.

I did one for horse riders before and hated it. This one is more subtle than I expected. About helping the body rather than drilling it.

The course I have signed up with is a new lesson twice a week. It is half an hour a session. From barely dragging myself to start doing it (which is why I am late finishing), I am enthusiastic as I can see results. Today I felt different in the saddle. My neck range of motion has increased (and I have spurs growing there - so subtle is necessary!).

Most of it is tiny movements to switch muscles off, weirdly. 10% of strength.

Ive just done the 5 days too, and signed up with my sister. I really liked it, and her way of teaching and relating things to the horse, and am hoping I will reap the rewards when the time comes to back the baby pony.

I was surprised. I had no intention to sign up but feel really positive about it.

What with someone to help BH be the best he can be, now me being overhauled, we will be a supersonic team!

I did the free 5 days too. Really enjoyed it and trying to justify the cost of the full course. It is very reasonably priced but we are a bit skint after buying the hugely self indulgent lorry!
I have tried 2 other rider excercise classes - a pilates one done live with someone and the Dressage Rider Training. Did not get much out of those. But this has felt much more useful.

It was because I want to have regular lessons with Joe Midgley that I 'shouldn't' have forked out the £100 for the courses. However, no point in helping BH to be his best self and not working on me too, was what I thought. So I'm in!

Not as expensive as a new lorry though!

I signed up for the 5 day free one and have inly had time to do 1 of them ? in my defence I went into work at 7am on Thursday morning and left at 11.15pm last night having been to 3 different racecourses without coming home in between!

I might cheat and screen record the vids in a min so I can still do them when I have time ...

What I discovered about day 1 was just how unflexable my hips are! Especially my right one and that's the one that gives me gip all the time.

I had no clue how to save them, but now I signed up I have them for as long as the courses are on, so July. I didn't know you could screen record.

The sessions are excellent, aren't they! I ended up joining her courses and have been doing them for about 13 weeks now, and the difference is amazing, both on and off the horse

I've just done the free week too, well most of it, really enjoyed it and didn't expect to be able to do half of it but managed to do little bits
The only reason I'm not signing up is I'm starting with a local Pilates lady this week

I will check these out thanks ? I do like pilates but find local classes very hit and miss. Do need to work on my core now I'll be riding more.

Ooh I'm going to give this a try. Share horse drops his right shoulder and I'm going wonky too so anything I can do between rides to help us be more straight and balanced is worth trying.

Can anyone do the wrap around piriformis/pretzel stretch?

It was introduced early on with little warm up, and it is seriously demanding ?. I binned it.
I can get into the initial position but then I'm not leaning over to one side like she is. I can do better if I do it next to the sofa, to lean on ?

Ah bum I missed it! It took my email to get notified when it's open again. Will stick with my Yoga with Adriene for now and some hip mobility moves I found via a PT on TikTok of all places :)

It's quite normal to not be able to do a move properly at the start of each 6 week course, but then be able to by the end, it's all very progressive - you just need to work to your ability level and not push beyond it!

I ran that move by my osteopath, with whom I do weekly Pilates classes. Let's just say that she was ? at it being introduced so early on without adequate build up. Actual harm can be done.

There's a danger of enthusiasm winning over knowledge. Be very careful. Many of the moves are helpful, but not all.

I was surprised it was the first move on the first day. It was enough to prevent Mr Red from joining me! A pity as the day 2 exercises for his neck would have been just what he needed. Also, day 4 where the psoas could be gently stretched without kneeling would have been helpful to him.

I always approach with a healthy degree of caution.

Hence "work to your ability level". if you can't safely do a move now, then come back to it later, surely that's just common sense.

Remember that not everyone taking the course or challenge has been sedentary up until starting, she is having to accommodate a range of fitness, mobility and ability levels and to provide some level of challenge to them all.

No, it is not common sense not to do that, of course people will try to do it, they've paid for the course. That is a fairly extreme move bunged in far too early. I am far from sedentary, I already do weekly Pilates classes run by a qualified human osteo, but I will never be capable of that move.

Remember the mantra of heath care professionals 'Do not harm'.

In fairness she did say it was difficult and did give an alternative to it. I found it quite straightforward and really felt it in the right place that I haven’t managed to stretch before. So I was a fan. And yet I can’t for the life of me do the child’s pose with my forehead on the floor without feeling like I’m going to pass out.

I’m a far from bendy near 50 year old but found the pretzel achievable first time & over the course have been able to get a deeper stretch. There is clear written disclaimer that people are their own health & safety officers & not to do movements that hurt. I find Pilate push ups tough so I don’t dip too low. She does progressions for certain movements. She repeatedly says that don’t have do range of movement she can to get benefits. Personally I have found great relief from chronically tight hip flexors & it’s been pretty good for my mental health
