I'd give 24hrs off - purely because i went to the docs about a year ago myself to have some vac jabs - I went running straight afterwards and it sent me loopy - I could hardly remember my own name
I can imagine it could have a similar effect on a horse. Probably wouldn't do any damage, but might make them feel a bit spaced out....
Where possible I'd give the horse 24hours off, but if for some reason that wasn't possible (e.g. needing to keep the horse working after joint medication) then I would work the horse but be careful not to get it sweaty
My 3 have just had their tet, flu and herpes today. Checked with vet and he said that they would be fine to ride. I suppose it depends on which types they have.
Been told it was ok to ride almost straight away as long as you don't make them sweaty. Personally though I give mine the day off - doesn't seem fair after having a needle jabbed in him to then expect him to be happy! I spend the evening giving lots of tlc, nice grooming and a little walk in hand
Georgie had his tet and flu last night. I gave him the night off. Normally I may have gone for a quiet hack, but it was so hot last night he would have got sweaty just doing that so I decided to play safe.
My vet told me that he always used to say to people to ride straight after (or leave just a couple of hours) as long as it was gentle.
But then he had a pony go in the trailer and be taken to a show immediately after vacination - I think it was supposed to be competing affiliated and needed its vacs up to date so was a bit of an emergancy visit. Apparently when they got to the show the pony was collapsed in the back of the trailer.
So he says he always recommends to leave 24hrs now.
I ride mine to the vets as its close by and saves the £28 call out fee
so after hes had his jab i'l wait 15-30mins depending if they need me out the way, then have a 20min walk back the yard.
but i wouldnt go out and do a hard schooling session and he doesnt sweat up on his walk back.
vets never had a problem with me doing this. And i used to do it with my previous loan horse before i bought my own.
