I have been diagnosed with scoliosis (cocxyx area) and am really only noticing serious pain when riding, I am being referred but wondered if anyone copes with riding daily and if so how? I mainly concentrate on dressage so lots of sitting trot aswell!!

Hi I was diagnosed about 15 months ago with it about half way up as a result of cracking my vertebrae without realising in a riding fall so it healed wonky, I have regular sports massages and mctimoney to manage it , my hardest thing is sitting straight and knowing when I'm not ;)

Only yesterday v absolutely gutted tbh cause it affects me riding so much and there doesn't seem to be much I can do about it either!

I have mild scoliosis in my lower back. Like someone said above, the main thing for me is knowing when I'm sitting straight. Also, doing yard chores can really hurt so I do have to be careful.

I have lumbar scoliosis. I was diagnosed age 14, am now 20. I was under the limit for having corrective surgery, however my consultant was surprised at this as she expected the curvature was to a greater degree. This was due to me being active and fairly muscled on my back, the muscle had built up far more on one side in order to compensate for the curved spine, making it more prominent. It doesn't cause me pain, however I can feel it is out of line, like I always need a big stretch and click if you know what I mean! I ride almost daily and have always just ignored it, it is fine hacking but I really notice schooling on the right rein everything I do feels so much more awkward so am starting to consider if there is any type of treatment I could get to combat this, although I realise the scoliosis won't be fixed. Hope this is helpful, interesting to hear anyone else riding with scoliosis!

That's interesting vice versa I wouldn't mind if I was just crooked but I am in fairly significant pain when I am sitting on a horse, the less I ride the better it is and long hacks are becoming impossible, I am very hopeful that physio will give me some relief. Also I have only started having pain over the last 3 months not sure why its suddenly gotten so painful all of a sudden!
