Was on holiday / honeymoon in States 2 weeks ago (you just have to love getting married in Vegas with Elvis in attendance - was fab!) and decided that on my return lots of work should be done on baby horse to get her backed sooner rather than later.

Anyway, perhaps sooner than expected, I rode her for the first time yesterday and she didn't turn a hair. She is completely different from my other ned, who was a pain when a youngster in every sense, up until the point her was ridden away and has become a complete rock! She is very bright and easy, and nothing seems to throw her. I just hope she maintains this composure right throughout the entire process. I also hope she continues to work this hard from behind and keep that lovely outline!! (see pics!)

Just for interest, she was 3 in April, is dutch bred (Goshka Festivo x Samber) and is rather large (16.2hh at present) so I won't be doing much other than backing and riding away this year, then start the real work next spring when she has matured a bit more.

She is fab.....judges still haven't liked her this year though, although she did well as a yearling ....too much colour for hunters, not enough for CHAPS ........ forbid anyone look at the quality of the horse underneath the colour!

I do get depressed when she gets pulled in beneath downhill, cow hocked coloureds.... I can only think it's because she doesn't have so many brown patches!

Isn't it the most wonderful feeling when you ride your young horse for the first time.

She is lovely and looks a good stamp of horse.

Good luck with her.

crikey she is stunning

i cant wait to get on my 3yo for thefirst time. like your girl he is 3 this year but a warmblood and just shy of 16hh so wont be doing much this year

Will keep updated.....

Colleen, I'm guessing you mean that the that the horse is a big lady, not necessarily me!!! hehehe!

But you are right, as a big, strong warmblood girl, and as easy as it it is turning out so far, I would much rather do it now than when she is even bigger and stronger!!

Forgot to say, if anyone is after a very well bred, loud coloured colt, her breeder has a fantastic boy for sale this year - I would have him if we had more room and money, and then we would have a nearly matching pair!!

Look how cute he is:
