So things are going well with my sensitive cob, he is massively less reactive and less sensitive, yesterday I rode in the school by myself for the first time!

Now the trouble is that my autumn /winter riding coats are all waterproof and windproof material so will rustle in the wind /as I move. Although he's improved hugely, for the time being I'd like a coat that won't rustle , like some kind of thick fleece or something.

Can anyone recommend a coat like that ? I won't ride in heavy rain so being shower proof is fine. I currently wear a fleece jacket and so far that's been warm enough but I know soon it won't be.

Thanks for any ideas !

I've stopped wearing my synthetic fleece jackets about twenty years ago, but from what I remember they don't stop the wind or rain, and this is what a windproof and showerproof shell over the top is for.

You could use a spray to showerproof the fleece, and wear a layer underneath that to stop the wind; something like a thick, really close weave cotton shirt, and below that, next to the skin, a thermal T-shirt on cold days.

i think softshell is pretty good for this, warm but not too hot, good stuff is breathable, windproof, shower proof and not rustly. cost effective too whereas decent tweed isn't!
i can't cope with rustly coats either ;)

Yes I discovered that tweed wasn't going to be realistic price wise !!
