Blizzard on the way.

Do you folks ride in the snow?
How do you stop it balling up in their feet?

We have off road hacking and I've been riding these routes for years. Will take it slow anyway though in case there is ice underneath.

Any other tips?

I rode in the snow a lot last year, never had a problem with snow balling up despite my TB being shod, I tended to do a lot of trot and canter which I think helps stop it balling.

It's great fun :D

Barefoot or a layer of Vaseline on the inside of the hoof, not on the shoe.
Go fast and stay in front to avoid being pelted with flying snowballs ;)
Remember to avoid pillowed fields...my friend tried to overtake me and ended up somersaulting with my other horse :D
Most of all enjoy and laugh lots!

The advice to go in front is noted!!! Proper laughed out loud at the prospect of getting some hoof snow in the face! :D

Cheers all. Loving the pics by the way!

oh lovely mine loved it as did I so pretty! Especially when it is first fallen. I only went where I knew the ground etc too.

Mine loves the snow...nice pics........... dog is wait for me!!

Long as you know the ground, I've never had problems with it balling up for similar...I've always loved going for a snow ride. I HATE snow....but if it's got the cheek to pelt it down and settle and make yard life hell....then the least I can do is go for a good old snow ride in it!

I won't ride in the snow, my youngster hasn't been ridden in the snow yet and my only options are going on the road which is a big no no or going in the school which seems a bit pointless as I can't imagine I'd get any schooling done and it would be too slippy. For the balling up of snow in the feet, try vaseline :)
