Hi

When it's windy do you still ride? my horse is a bit spooky in the wind when normally she's really good. had a hack planned for later but not sure if it's a good idea to go out...

i do with all mine, i expect to be able to ride them in all weathers as if i was at a show and it turned rainy/windy/other i wouldnt turn round and go home again

dont go if you think it would be unsafe to do so, you dont feel confident, and if you can take a sensible horse with you to give her confidence

One of my horses completely changes with the slightest breeze so unless i have someone to ride with which is never nowadays then i don't ride in the wind. My other horse isn't too bad so i do take him out but not in really strong winds cos i worry about trees coming down etc

ditto above. i try and work my horses in all weather as i expect them to do so if it was that weather at a show or something. mine are normally fine now but before it was a while before they concentrated on me and not the monsters in the bushes

Most horses I know are slightly 'Fresher' in the wind but it wouldn't stop me riding them, I ride in all Weather!

I'm really nervous of riding in the wind (I've had a couple of falls because of 'scary' windy days) so I worry that I'll transmit my nerves to the horse and make him spookier than he would normally be. I will ride in the wind if I absolutely have to though - when you only get to ride once a week, you make the most of it when you can!

I don't ride if it is too windy to hear properly. Che isn't really a spooky horse but obviously if things are blowing about he gets a bit jumpy and I do like to be able to hear whats going on around us just in case.

I ride in the wind - its actually quite pleasant as Pad turns from v v laid back horse to very forwards horse

Agree with others, they have to get used to being ridden in all weathers. After all, they are turned out in the wind so its not as if its alien to them.

my horse is spooky in the wind, its because the wind distorts their hearing, and they rely on their hearing for a lot in the wild. the more he trusts you the better he will be in the wind, but if you ride him often in the wind, he will probably get used to it.

My mare is brilliant in the strongest of winds - she just ignores everything.

The problems come with with light breezes which may blow a dried (welsh cob-eating) leaf down the road or turn a dock leaf from side to side!

I don't ride on the roads by me in the wind as they are small little back roads and i can't see round some bends so i need to be able to hear. If its too windy i can't hear if cars are coming or not!

well im just off out to battle the elements on my neurotic orange!!!!! If im not on here later, it is likely i have been run over by a 44 tonner or planted in a bush because of a scarey leaf! bye for now!

Well, I chickened out and am not going to ride. Not worth taking the chance. Only had her 5 months and don't really know her well wnough yet. and she's always spooky in hte wind.

And by wind, I mean we're having 45 mph winds here at teh moment. Breezy, fine. This is almost a gale isn't it?

I used to worry a lot about riding in the wind after some nasty experiences, but my current horse, of 9 months, is very good (he does get spookier but it's all comparative, his spookier is not really spooky!). Also, my fellow liveries always ride in any wind so if they're all tacking up it seems silly not to join them.

We braved it earlier and even decided to try a new route. Met everything you can imagine (dog show with marque and bunting flapping about, muck-spreading tractor, peacock, alpacas) but they all managed to hold their nerve.

I do worry abit about riding in the wind as my horse is spooky but i do ride in the wind and convince myself its no different! I do it incase i'm going to a endurance ride or show and it's windy!
