Tbf not a huge increase and EVERYTHING with regards to horse ownership has gone up.
A group lesson 45 mins for £60 does sound a lot, but I suppose this depends on where you are based, the quality of the horses, facilities and teaching etc

if you are happy there and already paying £56, the extra increase wouldn’t put me off.

Geez!! My local riding school, the best I’ve been to by far, charges £33 per one hour group lesson, next time someone complains about the price I will tell them they don’t know how lucky they are ?

Why is a jump lesson £15 more expensive? I’ve never seen group lessons delineated like that

all the riding schools I’ve been to do it like that, I suppose it’s more wear and tear on the horses. Plus sometimes they have smaller group sizes for jumping so it makes up for the cost. At my local riding school jumping lessons are £12 more expensive (so £33 for a group flat max 6 riders and £45 for a group jump max 4 riders)

Understandable with costs going up everywhere but ouch! No wonder there are lots of very novice sharers looking.

Yep, every time I buy feed it's gone up a bit, bedding is ridiculous. Luckily I get hay and straw from the yard which has stayed the same price but I swear the bales are smaller. And that's just the horse specific costs, their energy bills on business rates must be huge.

I expect not all horses suitable for teaching people to jump and time is needed for instructors to put up jumps and put them away.

The group sizes are the same up to 6 people.

I am riding there since loosing my horse as a stop gap between getting another horse.

After paying £68 for a 15 minute check up at the dentist this morning, sounds cheap to me. But I guess it was a private check up rather than a shared one!

Yes, I paid £75 in September for the horse dentist to look in my horses mouth for 10 minutes and declare no work was needed as she has excellent teeth.

On a shared yard visit with 10 other horses.

I suppose I was paying for the potential hour it could have taken.

yes absolutely - We are £90 each inc sedation with a dental vet.
Because it’s a yard visit some are going to be a quick rasp the edges off and some are newbies to us with manky teeth!

This didn’t include sedation. It would have been a bargain with sedation included when a tube of domesedan is about £45

They’re steep prices regardless. I wouldn’t pay more than £40 for a RS lesson unless it was a very high quality school. Only willing to pay prices like that at Talland.

6 seems like a big group for one instructor to me, does it work well? My experience is that max 4 seems to suit, anymore and their attention gets a bit thinly spread.

We have just taken on a pony who is lovely but ended up in completely the wrong home - due, I am sure, to the rising cost of living and RS prices. Sweet little thing, lovely people, but the amount of knowledge they had vs what he needed were a complete mismatch.

I'm currently paying £26 for a 30 min private lesson and £39 for an hour. Prices are due to go up any time now, but we've not been told how much they're going up by.

It's hard work setting jumps up and someone needs to spend time doing it.

When I was riding at a riding school I had an hour's lesson and the bus fare there and back for £1. That shows my age.

I agree with the reasoning, I have just never seen it. And none of the RS round here do it. Neither do any of the coaches who offer flat/jumping lessons on the same clinic to different clients. In my experience, it is very unusual but not disagreeing with the logic.

Where I am - 45 minute private will be c.£97 for a Stage 4 minimum coach and an hour group will be c.£72 regardless of coach level - that's with a 10% discount. Non discounted prices are over £100 for a private and £80 for a group

Wear and tear on horses and equipment are the usual reasons why.

Six is ok if riders are all of the same level... it's when you get someone who's borderline the level below that I've seen it become an issue. Also does depend on arena size and the ability to keep out everyone's way ;)

Prices just gone up again they last went up in December. I expect the recent rise in due to the increase in minimum wage. I do two rides a week one lesson and one hack so £128 a week now. I don't know how I would have managed without the RS since I lost Homey.

You can get buy 10 in advance and get one free which would bring the price down but as I am looking for a new pony I don't want to buy so many in advance. One girl I was speaking who has private lessons say she has asked if she can buy 10k of lessons in advance to try and hedge further price rises.

Group lesson 45 mins 63
Hack 45 minutes mins 65
Group jump mins 45 80
Private lesson 45 mins 90

Prices at my RS going up.

Group lesson for 45 minutes was 56 now 60
Group Hack 45 minutes was 53 now 60
Group Jump lesson for 45 minutes was 70 now 75

Explains why I’m getting a lot of enquiries about my ad to share my pony! Lessons on my own horses went up a bit when fuel prices went through the roof but comparatively cheap. Livery went up 15% when energy prices and shavings & feed went up. Different part of the country but was paying about same 18 years ago

I pay £65 private for 45 mins ‘off-peak’, goes up to £70 after 4 pm and Fri to Sunday. And buy 10 get 1 free.
I can spend as much time after as I wish grooming/massaging my horse which is just as precious as riding, makes it very good value.
