We always ride two abreast no matter what horses we are on. Well most of them are highly strung and have the occasion to run into each other. Also cars do no respect you if you ride single file. Round bends especially we ride two abrest because cars can see us quicker.
We also thank people and when I took the BHS riding and road safety test they said they advised riding two abreast unless the traffic was seriously heavy because it is the safest way.
I suppose it is personal opinion, and the way you feel safest and what horse you are on and how you treat drivers and where you live
