Just read TV2 Denmark news from last sunday, 14 year old girl fell of a horse and landed on her head, near her home at Assens on Fyn. She was alive when the ambulance got there, but she died later in hospital due to internal bleeding. According to the police, she was not wearing a hat.
I know non-horsey journalist might not know there's other protections to these days, but still, when the accident happens, it's never worth to be without

RIP.

from Sweden.

Loads of people in France ride without hats. We had a tragedy a few months ago when a woman riding without a hat was killed a week before her wedding.

Don't do it!!

Another riding tragedy which could have been so easily avoided.

Here in the UK, it is a legal requirement that children aged 14 and under must wear a riding hat up to at least BS4472 standard whilst out on the road.

It's a shame that this is not in force for everyone no matter what age. I have been around horses for 14 years and trust my mare completely but I would never ride without a hat - you just never know what is going to happen.

Not very nice is it, its a shame more people don't learn from these tragedies.

Ok they might not value their own skulls and lives and yes its personal choice but to put your family through the torture of seeing their loved ones laying in a hospital bed while, watching them slowly loose there sight, speech, sh*tting their beds and being fed through tubs until their a cabbage and then eventually into a deep sleep and dying a few weeks later which in fact is the best thing for them all due to blow to the head causing a serious bleed....and for what?

I wont beat and the bush and mince my words, that's what happens, fact....I seen it with my own eyes.

Surely a bit of common sense and £50 on a hat, in fact no, you even get them cheaper than that.

Mind blowing...literally!

My god it still surprises me that we still hear these things happening, when will the small minority of horse riders realise IT IS NOT BIG OR CLEVER to ride without a hat it is in reality F***ING STUPID.
sorry but it does annoy me riders do not think on the devestation they leave behind by being dumb

I would never travel in a Car without a seat belt and I would never ride a horse without a hat (no matter how quiet, old, sensible, slow, steady, bombproof, sane or perfect the horse was!) for the same reasons. You just never know what will happen!

The other day I saw a women riding a cob on a busy main road which is very Hilly and twisty, she had no hat on and it was quite late in the afternoon so it was getting dark. It's just so STUPID and irresponsible!

As an FEI Chief Steward, I have a battle and a half trying to get the Big boys and girls (usually more the boys) to wear their hats while at the competition. There are young kids around drooling over their heros, who are not wearing hats!!!!!!

The FEI won't let me enforce the rule unless the rider is jumping fences.

It is a real shame anyone has to die, when it could so easily have been prevented.

RIP
