She's actually riding when she does this?!

What if she was to fall off? What of horse was to rear or buck?

Stupid, stupid, stupid woman

A baby is the most precious thing, why on earth would you want to risk killing it?
Bet she wouldn't travel it without a car seat, or leave it outside tesco's, or cross or motorway with the pram (bit extreme maybe) so why on earth do this?
Its not just the horse being a prat that's the potential problem but the traffic. She might think she can rely on the horse but you can't rely on a wingmirror or worse not hitting you can you?
Sorry but that's just beyond the realms of sensible behaviour

It is certainly something I would never have done, but is it much different from those people who have their babies strapped on the back of their bikes, or worse still, towed along behind at road level

I know that unlike a horse a bicycle doesn't have a mind of its own, but they are somewhat less stable than a horse (which at least has four corners) and more likely to be hit by another vehicle

imho I don't think either should be "legal"

Why is it just when you think you've heard it all, something else blows you away, I cant believe how someone could put there child in so much potential danger, if its not bad enough her child not wearing a riding hat, she could also crush her to death, or indeed her child could inflict a more serious injury on her if they were both to fall, unbelievable!

There was a news story around Christmas about a guy who killed his baby son by flipping his quad while carrying the child in front of him. IMO this woman is equally irresponsible.

Please report her to your local Child Protection agency before an accident happens. They have a duty to act where a child is at risk.

Surely that can't be good for the baby as the horses movement is going to throw it about in a carrier or not, especially as young as 1 or 2 months they are only just learning how to support there own heads!! I think doing that is just crazy i would never of put my children in that sort of danger, any horse no matter how old or well behaved can have there off days. What's more important, riding your horses or your child, there should be no question!

That is ridiculous.

If she falls off she could kill the baby. I'm sure that the police would be interested then.

It may be legal but it is stupidity.

Hmmm, I'm not a parent so my view may not be worth much, but I can't see how this is any worse than bunging a baby in one of those seats on the back of a bike and then cycling on the roads around lots of dangerous cars etc. (and I see many many parents doing this). Is the issue the age of the baby? I imagine (again, no real concept of what babies can and can't do at various ages) they are pretty delicate at 1-2 months and shouldn't be shaken around - is this the problem here? If so, then I can't really see a problem at the baby's current age...

Good point, cant a baby die from being vigorously shaken about....?

even at that age!

I think slightly different from a bike seat in so far as you probably wouldn't land on the baby if you fell off a bike, you'd both fall off, and not from such a height.(I wouldn't take one on the road anyway)
My 25 year old horse was safe as houses, bombproof, I let my little nieces and nephews ride up and down the drive on her, but when a car ran up the back of her there was no way the girl riding could have stayed on, so you can't ever guarantee that you won't fall off. Very stupid IMO.

The police can only act if a law is being broken. Social Services are duty bound to at least speak to the woman, which hopefully will make her realise how reckless she is being with her child's life.

god good thats shocking. I have a baby but have NEVER done this.
Why dont you suggest that you know someone who puts their baby in a pram just outside the school and then ride in the school as thats safer?Might be a nice gentle way of saying it and of helping the poor sprog. Or approach the YO and ask her to say that shes not covered by insurance to do that and so will ask her to stop.

That is really bad! I won't even let my little girl sit on the horse with me on it! Report her, that s a major accident waiting to happen. It doesn't even need to be her or the horses fault, what if a motorist comes flying round a corner and hits them?!

When my daughter was a baby I hated walking to the shop with her in one of those things, I was scared she would fall out of it or I would trip up a curb.

People amaze and scare the heck out of me.

Problem is if the police don't want to know, social services are not going to be much more interested to be honest. I am a school teacher and couldn't get social services into action for a 13 year old girl who's mum had thrown her out in the middle of the night, so she went to live with her 20 yr old boyfriend who had an ASBO against him, to stop him coming into school and knocking her about!

YO needs to have serious word, perhaps banning babies from being on the yard at all, prams and carry slings are not adequate protection. YO could be use Health and Safety to hide behind, before an accident happens and YO is sued for not taking reasonable precautions.
