Yesterday little Ruby was sadly taken away :(

Mum was only 9 weeks away from being full term and I had the worst phone call of my life to say she'd aborted.

A beautiful little filly with a blaze - I said right from the start I wanted a blaze as never owned a horse with one :o

Mum is fine thankgod. Vet needs to be knighted, he's brilliant.

We took Ruby and the placenta to Newmarket (3 hour round trip) and thankgod it wasn't EHV-1. Probable diagnosis is Scoliosis - an abnormal lateral curvature of the vertebral column. Vet is convinced that if she had of gone full term they both would of died due to the positioning of the head and seeing her in the stable I totally agree with him.

She was flushed out again today and he's coming tomorrow for a final check. T-bag is out in the paddock keeping 'things moving'. She's a bit quiet but eating well and vet is happy with her.

My mum rang last night in tears to ask if they could get me another foal from somewhere else :( Bless them.

Sorry for such a sad post but needed to share.

I am so sorry for your loss, thinking of you all and I hope T-bag feels better soon. Rest in Peace little Ruby. Tash xxx

So sorry for your loss.
Sometimes there are foals who have lost their mums. Perhaps your vet will know if there are any that need adopting (if you think it is appropriate).
RIP little one

That must have been so distressing, very sorry for your loss. I agree about the National Foaling Bank, at least something good could come out of a tragedy, if there is a foal out there needing a mum.

Thanks guys for all your kind words.

Luckily she hadn't started bagging up etc so isn't grieving. She wasn't bothered by Ruby (sorry can't call it the foal) in the stable yesterday and just stood there munching on her haynet.

Just glad it's something that couldn't of been advoided and that mum is ok.
Would of been heart breaking to lose both :(

Ow how sad :( feel hugely sorry for you. Give ur mare lots of cuddles, I bet you both need each other more than ever!

Fortunately she's a very cuddly horse. Just as well as I had her in head lock blubbing into her mane :o

so sorry to hear that :(

Life is utterly crap at times x

For every death theres a life and that will be your beautiful foal. Can we be honary god parents from afar ? :)

Hope you got my pm. Never sure if they go on phone. Glad Tilly is okay and very sad about Ruby. Look after yourself.

No didn't / haven't got it. Did you get mine yesterday ?

So so sad but I'm glad she didn't suffer. Don't think I can cry much more. Even had to tell OH to stop being nice to me.

No poo through the post

Didn't do my normal post on your thread this morning so I'll do it now HURRY UP TB !!!!

Dam ;) how did you guess :D

2 horses = twice the amount of poo - gotta get rid of it somehow !

I just replied to your thread in breeding but so sorry to read this xxx

Thanks DD. Wasn't sure if I was going to post at all as so many positive baby threads didn't want to appear the doom master.

We're going to give her a couple of months then cover her. She took first time last July so fingers crossed. Hopefully it was just the worst possible luck ever :(
