This morning I arrived to the yard to find Silkie and her foal dead . She had gone into premeture(sp) labour (2months early) and had died giving birth .

Please send hugs to her owner Angie

RIP Silkie ...

I have really realised how lucky I am to be able to say goodbye to Sol . No one expected this to happen and its all come as a hideous shock

Her owner is in pieces the hunt can't collect her for 2days and the vets said it would be 6days

She is in pieces . There is nothing any of us can say to ease things . Its not even like she went peacefully ..(and you can tell that from the amount of blood everywhere)

Jesus, that is absoulutely awful, omg seriously that is so horrible :hugs: to the owner, i cannot begin to imagine what she much be going through!

OMG, that is so terrible. I feel so sorry for your friend! We lost our mare’s foal this year and that was hard enough, so the thought of losing the mare as well is just unbelievable.

Big hugs to Angie!

Silkie was only young , I just can't believe its all happened , she was happily bucking and farting around the field last night

I'm going to get her a bunch of flowers I think . I just didn't know what to say this morning ? What do you say ?

To make things worse the hunt can't come for 2 days so we have to get her out of her stable and away from the other horses ...

Awhh, every stud owner's nightmare. We lost 2 foals once, and were lucky not to lose a mare. We did lose a mare to laminitis (which came in after toxic shock set in via infected uterus !!)

It's not easy getting a dead horse out of a stable, we were lucky none of ours died unexpectedly, but all led out to their burial place then pts.

Very sad for her owner, please tell her we are all thinking of her. ((((HUGS))))

As I said in the SB, its so awfully tragic

Can't imagine how Angie must be feeling. Huge hugs to her, and R.I.P. Silkie.

On a purely practical note, I just don't see how you can get her out of the stable. Can you not board the stable up and/or cover her with some rugs until the hunt come? I don't think it will be physically possible.

If it's any comfort, I would imagine it was fairly quick for the poor mare, if there is considerable blood loss. Hope so, and very sorry for the owner's loss.

Silkie has no been buried , I'm not sure how they managed to get her out of the stable but they managed it

She couldn't stay in there as its an american barn with 7 other horses in so its not enclosed at all
