RIP Vinny 1991-24th May 2007

Our beloved mare had to be put down on the 24th May.
We found her in the field, she was so lame she couldnt walk. We managed to bute her and get her on lorry under vets supervision to get her to the surgery. She had punctured her leg so was going to have to go under general anestehitic(sp?) to have it flushed.. Operation went fantastic but she she got up she fell back down and snapped the top of her back leg and he bone come out the skin =(
Poor mare.

It seems more common in England that horses break legs in recovery - in the last 20 years at Rood and Riddle (140 stalls) they have only had it happen 8 times. While I have heard a number of English people experiencing this.

I am so sorry RIP Vinny x

In the USA I think they assist recovery a lot more - here it is generally left to the horse and the majority re fine. Maybe of more recoveries were assisted the fatalities would be fewer. I remember seeing your amazing photos of a recovery pool - nothing like that over here that I have seen!

Our horses have varying levels - from the pool, to people, and some are just left to their own accord.

I am so very sorry. Lots of hugs to you - it has been a very difficult, sad couple of weeks on HHO. My thoughts are with you xx
