3 months on…

The grey boy has just turned 5 and he has been as good as gold since I have had him. I have never had a youngster before but he is totally straightforwards and quite a few people have said they would take him home with them!

We have lessons every week with a fab trainer who is keen to prepare him for young horse classes next year (this year they were just too soon after I bought him) although I would be terrified to ride in them! I am stewarding at the young horse champs next month so I can scare myself even more…

We have entered 5 unaffiliated prelims at “home” and won or been placed every time. However, our highest percentage has only been 67% and trainer is frustrated as she reckons “he is a 70% horse”. I was quite proud of the fact he has got a few 8s but overall I cannot keep him working as consistently as my trainer (obviously!) So I am putting Risby on schooling livery over August. I really didn’t want to as I feel like a failure

, but it will do him good to have a pro rider on him and to bring him on some more. He is a lovely ride, just needs someone a bit stronger to push him a bit further as he is definitely capable of it.

In the meantime I am hoping to go to Germany for some lessons myself and maybe a detour to the Spanish Riding School so keep you updated if it all goes ahead.

Sadly don’t have any new photos as family and bf are useless and never come to shows. Hmph. But will get some taken soon hopefully.

He's a good boy :-)

Am I being pathetic to let someone else school him for me? What if he goes really well for her (which no doubt he will), do I then keep him on schooling livery and just ride a couple of times a week

I really didn't want to end up doing that as I want to do the riding, but I don't want to prevent him from reaching his potential either.

Cheryl was competing today up there in the medium but I wasn't able to stay and watch, sadly.

Well I'm presuming you have bought him to compete at the serious level stuff so I don't think you are being pathetic in putting him on schooling livery a lot can be learned in a short space of time with a pro. I'm sure after that you will be able to reach his full potential with the right trainer

It sounds like he's getting good marks with you so no reason why you can't take him further.

Do you still have Junit??

Yes you're right. Its just frustrating when I watch such good riders!

Yes I still have Junit although he is living a life of leisure at the moment and not doing much!

Did you do the Rushmore dressage at Chelsfield again this year?

I did one of the series and then the championship show..came 4th both times. Chelsfield held their own dressage seried too this summer which was quite nice. Actually had a few different people to compete against lol
