Anyone got any testimonies/opinions on Ron Fields supplements? Read some very good reviews and ordered some of the PreUlc Powder and ULC30EX but wondering if I should expect any sort of improvement.. Don't think his ulcers are back but suspecting some sort of hind gut upset from the changes in weather/grass

I used their ulcer liquid for a while, not sure whether it was massively effective but they then changed to powder and I stopped ordering. I now use equine America ulc gard (liquid)and horse likes it. Neither supplement gave amazing results but I’m happy with him on the ulsgard .He gets reasonably uncomfortable on fresh grass but nothing too major. I think it helps?! 🤷🏻‍♀️

I tried it and it didn’t work for BB sadly.

Thank you - I guess it's like everything, it's trial and error! I just thought it's worth a go as it wasn't any more expensive than a regular supplement

I've used it for my horse and I've seen huge improvements in him.

He is much more fluid through his body (no longer moving like he's trying to protect his tummy) and the strange twisting motion on his left hock has reduced dramatically. (I suspect the hock movement was a compensation pattern because he was doing everything he could not to aggravate his guts when he moved.)

He's also a cribber and he doesn't do it as much as he used to. When he does crib his attitude towards it is a lot less frantic and stressy than it was few months ago. He also chews his cribbing toy more than he used to and sucks in air a lot less frequently.

His eye is softer and he's clearly much happier in himself.

I tried RF before a couple of years ago with my horse and didn't see these changes. What made the difference this time was using a course of his gut restart powder first and then I used the pre-ulc powder until his symptoms had vanished entirely. To be honest, his symptoms were so much better after a couple of weeks but I used the entire 750g bag of pre-ulc off to be on the safe side!

I have used it and saw a improvement, however I dont think its very palatable as struggled to get mine to eat it. They are very helpful if you email them.

Yes, that is a good point about the palatability. My horse is really picky about different things in his food and will then throw it all over the floor.

What worked for mine was adding apple juice to his food as he loves that and it disguised the flavour enough.

I've weaned him off the apple juice now and he'll eat the supplements with no problem. I know others have had success with grating (it has to be grating, not chopping) carrots into the food.

My other horse, who is also on RF, ate the supplements first time round with nothing added to hide the taste. He will eat absolutely anything though.

I used the Pre ULC powder and then the ULC30Ex liquid and saw a huge improvement in my horse. All his symptoms were relatively minor but all of them cleared up and he was a different horse. It's well worth talking to Ron before starting any of the supplements as he's very helpful.

Thank you! I spoke to Ron on the phone and he was so helpful, he suggested the PreUlc Powder followed by the ULC30EX which I've just ordered.. my boys symptoms too aren't major (a bit more leaping around when out hacking than normal and not quite as soft in the school) so hoping this will be enough to just make him comfortable as we're going through changes with grass etc.

Really hope they work for you too. Let us know how you get on and if you're not seeing the expected results do ring Ron back, I ended up with mine on the PreULC for I think 10 days rather than the initial 7.

Thank you! Out of interest what symptoms did your horse have?

Stiffer on his right side when ridden, was funny about his right hind with the farrier, would rest his hind legs too often and often switch between the two and his posture was a bit camped under (although a chiro had already helped with this a lot). Since losing these symptoms his ridden work also came on hugely.

And he was checked over by a vet beforehand who was happy with him, it was just those minor niggles that made me think something could be better for him. A post on here about the right hind and the right hand side of the horse being linked to the hind gut was what made me try the Ron Fields.

Ah that's interesting, my horse isn't stiffer on his right side however definitely more reactive to the leg on that side but I never thought anything of it! Thank you for your feedback :)

I used Pre ULC powder and then the ULC30Ex liquid on my old horse. We had been on several rounds of Omeprazole and Sucralfate but her ulcers kept recurring. The RF treatment helped break the cycle.

In case its of interest to anyone I have just had a email from them about a new test for ulcers. Its a Dna test using hair and saliva and costs £195, no ide if it works or not but just thought it may interest someone.

I used the series as recommended by Ron - remount, pre ulc, ulcer ex, neutra 20 per the guidelines and saw no benefits, just cost me a lot

I was trying to address potential hind gut issues, a swinging right hind and a lack of forwardness.

For us the products made zero difference.

Mine looked more fluid in his back so thought it was working although he was still grumpy to groom (for which I have noticed a correlation to colder weather and more grumpiness)...and tbf it might have been good had the correct amounts continued to be fed. I'm keen on giving aloe vera a try.

a DNA test for ulcers won't be reliable given that they're not a genetic condition, and an individual horse can fluctuate between having ulcers and not having ulcers but will have the same genes.

Saliva testing was previously unreliable too.

Nothing personal against you, but these companies making false claims and fleecing people of their money really annoy me...

PS I used to charge less than £195 to gastroscope a horse - maybe I should take up making up genetic tests, would save the effort 🙈

Its nothing to do with me, I have no idea if it works or not. It was just I had a email from the company about it and thought it may be of interest to people on this thread.

I'm on ULCEX and I see no difference. I quite liked Max Gut Health, but if there is an suspected ulcer, I always use Protexin Acid ease.
