Vet has told me to change my dogs food as he says it will help with his skin.
Hes currently just on pedigree meat and iv been wanting to change him for ages ust the price of some have put me off (been a bit poor :( ) so now the vet has suggested a change iv been thinking of royal canine for bull dogs.

Has anyone tried this before? Its not cheap so iv got some sample to see if he likes it first but was just wondering what other people thought?

I use Royal Canin for my GSD's and they do very well, its not cheap but I really like it and I buy a pallett at a time with a couple of different types of food

Can't really help with Royal Canine as mine only get it when their ill or as a treat. But I do recommend James Wellbeloved and I think it's cheaper. I'm sure someone with more knowledge will come along and help more than me :D

RC is very dear but they do carry breed-specific ranges.

My dog had a skin condition but before he did he was on RC and it didn't do much for him, TBH, his coat condition was not brilliant but all dogs are different, of course, I know other dogs that have done very well on it.
JWB did nothing for his skin either. Different breed, though.

If he has a skin condition I'd be tempted to put him on something as plain and natural as possible IE no grain, raw meat and bones or cooked meat (don't cook bones!)

Skinners Field and Trial do a non-allergenic wheat free food which is more reasonably priced.

Bionic Biotic is a good supplement for skin conditions, also dear :o but good, try adding natural yoghurt to food, drop a block of sulphur in his water, use Aloe Vera gel on his itchy bits and you can add the juice to food also, fish oil and ask the vet about popping him on an anti-histamine in case the itchiness is seasonal or pollen-related.

I would stay away from it. To full of grains and filler and a rip off price wise.

If you can't do RAW i would go with skinners wheat free. Fairly cheap and a pretty good food.

I have Daisy on Royal Canin Sensitivity diet due to her skin, she eats it really well and does not seem as itchy, I also add a capsule of evening primrose oil to it as a vet said it was good for skin conditions.

I dont think he has a skin condition hes just suffered with mites as a baby (were really bad on his face :( ) and hes come out in scabs all over his back which vets thinks is mites again but never scrapped him  Im going to take him back to another vets for a second opinion and get his skin scraps done. he does seem sensitive and the RC bulldog food is ment to be good for there skin.
Iv got some samples from my lack feed shop today and he had a sniff and walked away so maybe get some different samples for him to try

A lot of vets can find it hard to get to the bottom of skin complaints - my dog's ears were initially blamed on mites - he never had them, he is actually atopic and has a tree pollen energy.

A quote from good old Wiki

"Royal Canin recalled products on 20 April 2007 due to the presence of a melamine derivative in the rice protein concentrate in some of its dry pet food products. The South African subsidiary stated, "We at Royal Canin want to express our support and condolences to owners whose pets may have fallen ill or passed away as a result of eating our food." This product was possibly added to the food in China, and yes this is the stuff they use to make Kitchen worksurfaces!

This is precisely why I feed human grade raw food, I know exactly what my dogs eat, but here you have a substance that can kill entering the dog food probably through sub standard rice, something that a dog does not even need in it's feed. Some commercial feed companies will use sub human standard products from unknown sources to reduce production costs and ultimately increase profit!
