RSPCA

I'm amazed the vet said no.

That sounds like a cop out to me. When I was witness to an RSPCA seizing a horse, the RSPCA pretty much told the vet what they wanted them to put on their report. It wasn't the vets decision at all. In that case they seized two and left two behind as well, but it was definitely the RSPCA inspector who decided that and not the vet. I tried to argue the case for them all to be seized, but the inspector wouldn't budge. The justification was that they could drink the water out of the puddles when it rained so weren't in immediate need (the ones seized were in a stable, but in better body condition than the ones in the field. One of the field ones was a colt, so I suspect that was the real reason). The vet didn't have an opinion at all, just nodded when prompted.

There was a chronically laminitic pony near me that WHW were interested in, but the owner's vet kept fending them off
Maybe some vets place more value on their relationship with the client than animal welfare
They should get an independent vet, surely? Not the 'client's' (/suspected abuser's) own vet.

WTF???

Not sure what the hell is going on. Owner not being prosecuted. She moved the two remaining horses to yard near Sible Hedingham. Which we knew about. Just been informed that the remaining emaciated horses that were seized, have been returned. What was the point of the months and months of campaigning. Begging welfare to attend. She must be laughing at us.

It sounds like she has friends with influence. Those poor horses! :(

So frustrating for you OP.

It does sound like she has connections.

Can you push ROR as they were wanting to prosecute?

Time to go to the papers now I think - that's a juicy scandal for a savvy journalist to get their teeth into - especially off the back of the recent news articles.
I tried the local papers. And The Mail when we were campaigning. Nothing. 😢

Might be worthwhile trying again with the press now that the poor horses have been returned and the story has a twist along the lines of horses in danger being returned to 'bad' owner.

Also perhaps the Times journalist that wrote about the CDJ incident?

I know it's probably way out there for this forum but I'd also try GBNews (horror of horrors) as they are very into rural issues with the farmers and they also had a dog rescue place in Kent promoted last night as their Xmas charity on Farage's Christmas show. (The same show promoted a Birmingham dog rescue last season and that charity got so many donations from it that their website crashed).

UPDATE. So Liz was given the horses back from the RSPCA. She left the yard at silo hill went to another yard in Essex. Under the conditions they were in full livery. But they were not looked after and the manager of that yard was kicked off (for other reasons) and they both paired up and went Kedington way. Which is between Claire and Haverhill. We don’t know where they are. But the land owner did take photos of two of them before she departed. Is there anyone local to this area who may know. As they will be dumped in a field. And starved again. RSPCA not interested.
