It's always the same stories over and over - the RSPCA are of course lacking but all the other horse charities who are our voice know this too and say nothing. One of the charities did a survey earlier in the year about what to take to Government and horse owners were Most Concerned about lack of enforcement of the Animal Welfare Act - has this appeared anywhere ? No. Delighted to be proved wrong.
The problem is just too big imo. Expecting charities to enforce the law is just expecting too much. The problem is that instead of being honest about their limitations, the RSPCA like us to believe that they are the police force for animals (even down to their uniform). They ought to be putting pressure on our councils and police and ultimately the government to do their jobs properly and allocate enough resources for that, but they don't because it might mean less donations for them.

The animal welfare act is terrible. Rspca are the same as any animal charity. They have no special powers, just more experience to prosecute. Prosecutions are private ones and anyone can prosecute if they have the evidence and the money. They have very few equine specific welfare officers. Our equine charity works very closely with the Police and councils and other charities. You have to act within the law.

The police also look to charities to tell them what the law is, as most of them don't have a clue!

I know rugs out on and left on can cause their own issues. I'm struggling to understand why someone would have rugs (& hay) at their disposal and not use them given thr weather conditions, never mind the condition of her poor horses.

From being on livery I know that there are some extraordinary lazy people and people who can't afford to hay their horses. Surely hugging and feeding them is less effort than cosntsntly having to move? As she keeps buying more horses there must be money somewhere? I mean solway don't give them away.

She is a prison officer. And works. It’s not a money issue. I don’t understand it.

This was two of them when they arrived last year from the charity. Solway Racehorses
Same Solway as mentioned here, I take it? https://www.racingpost.com/news/ire...g-centre-for-retired-racehorses-aXsnO2l12BOx/

"This week I reached my 100th horse rehomed through Solway since March 2023. It's been a good success. All the horses have landed on their feet."

Lets hope they can sort these horses out before it's too late.

She asked for Glenn to be taken back. She refused. Solway were very upset that Woz had died.
Did you forward the pictures and grim details to Liz Jones? Deborah Meagher? Another celebrity?
Meanwhile, H&H report that WHW CEO Roly Owers :
“warmly welcomes the way FEI has embraced the vision of giving all sport horses a good life, and the pivotal re framing of our relationship to help us recognise that we are guardians of sport horses from birth to death”.
- which deaths all too likely to be premature and miserable. What a farce.
Worth updating WHW again, begging their help?
This is all falling on you; knowing the backstory, with the experience and photographic evidence; that’s dreadful, but well done for pursuing thus far!

Report was sent to horse and hound direct. With photos. They never even acknowledged. Local Suffolk free press won’t publish. Sent everything to daily mail. Nothing. Tracked down two horses from Solway. Unfortunately she bought them. And won’t give the other one back. Woz is deceased. There are four in total left. She’s thrown hay around this morning as local farmer went up this morning along with others to demand answers, and she’s very clever. Knew they were coming. I’ve messaged some well known horsey people. There are posts everywhere on all local Facebook pages. There is a petition. I’m exhausted by it all. She will move them soon. And will buy more. And the cycle continues 😢.

Can you contact her employer? I'm sure prison officers are supposed to be of good moral standing.

I think the owner thinks she’s above the law being a prison officer 🫤 maybe that’s why the rspca backed off, it’s a dreadful situation 😞 as suggested before can we pursue a private prosecution? Surely she would back down as a criminal record she would lose her job? 🤔

I don’t understand this woman. Why does she want these poor horses 😢 why keep getting more when she can’t look after the ones she has? As for the authorities … There is surely more than enough evidence of neglect to justify seizing the animals, doesn’t take a horse expert to understand that visible skeletons is bad 🤬
This is what I was just wondering 🤷‍♂️

Is it RoR who kickstarted the vet + RSPCA visit?

Hopefully the authorities will see through the sudden appearance of the forage, but at least it will help keep the survivors alive until they can be properly taken into care.

There are some good and experienced equine peeps within the RSPCA, but not nearly enough of them. As I’ve posted before, I’ve successfully fostered young ponies twice before from the RSPCA equine rescue centre in Shropshire. It’s a good place.

Well done @exracehorse your getting things moving. 👏

Don't be disheartened by the arrival of hay. A couple of days and it will be mucky and not edible and the netting will be classed as debris in the field. Like others have said they're body score isn't going to improve with a bit of hay and a rug short term. The horses have already been body scored so they will do more than just glance over the gate at them. X

You've done a great thing for these hirses. Well done. It absoutely should no have escalaed to thism but your persistence appears finally to be paying off.

A livery on my old yard has been banned for keeping horses for 10 years after a horse died in their care through neglect. So hopefully RSPCA will also prosecute this. It does happen! It should happen more often.
