My horse is moving stables in 2 weeks to a new one in a nice indoor barn, compared to his old outdoor leaky one :)

In our last stable we couldnt have matting as the stable leaked but I am concidering kitting out our new one.

Does matting save time and money in the long run?
How much did you pay for your mats and where did you get them?

Do you use them with straw or shavings? Most of my yard still use straw but isnt that defeating the point?

hi, nice new stable, must have mats:) They do save time, as you put less bedding down. I use mine with pellets and it takes about 2 mins to muck out. My old boy has a full bed, coz hes spoilt:) my young un just has half down. You can use what ever bedding you want, shavings/pellets prob easiest. Im not allowed straw, but wish I was - love it, but wouldnt bother with mats if i did.

I use mats more as an anti slip/cushioning thing than to save bedding. But I only had a half bed in my stable anyway ;) I use them with shavings - my mare has a proper deep bed at the back of her stable and just stands on the rubber at the front where her hay is.

Not sure I have saved money or time because of the way I already had my bedding. My mats were about £20 each I think - I got them off ebay but it was about 5 years ago

ETA mine are like this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Rubber-Stable...oods_StableAccessories_SM&hash=item5ad7e07eea Can't remember for the life of me who I actually bought them off but it was an ebay shop. They are the heavy 18mm ones - we have thinner ones in another stable and they are rubbish, far too light.

I love my rubber mats - probably the best horsey investment I ever made!

I use them with straw. They don't save me money, as straw is included in our livery anyway, but they save me a lot of time - especialy with my particularly mucky horse! I only put straw down on half his stable, and not as thick as a normal bed - so if I was buying in, it would save me money too.

Mine save me time more than anything! Mine is on a half bed of straw, which is so much quicker to muck on with a messy one than a full, thick bed of straw - I mean its still generous, but not as thick as it would be if I had nothing.

Think mine cost £30 a mat, and have 6 mats in total. They are nice and thick and solid, and a little too big, so they are pushed up the sides, which must provide some more draught exclusion surely?! ;)

Mine save me time AND money!

I can get all three horses mucked out and back in their stables in less than 45 mins in the mornings - on three corners of the yard, with taps/hay etc all in different places.

I have my two on shavings and can do a bale a fortnight and still have white fluffy beds, and OH's horse is on straw.
