I have just spent my Wednesday evening showing off horses to people that have to be the rudest bunch Ive have ever come across when selling a horse.

First of all they are late, do they apologise? No

They came to see several horses, brought the first one out and they said they didn't like it but would see if anyway

So showed off this horse, and then the child got on, rode it for about 15/20 minutes, and seemed to really click with him. Mother then calls her over and tells her to get off as it isn't any good, child looked a bit confused at this point.

Then bring out second horse, at which point the mother actually screwed her nose up and said she didn't like the look of that one.

Third horse comes down, I ride him round and pop a jump, he is everything they described they wanted, but she turns to me and says that isn't what they are looking for, totally wrong stamp (after early pretty much describing him to the letter when she told me what she wanted)

Bring out the 4th and final horse, they spend 10 minutes poking him and then tell me they really don't like him at all.

As I am putting him away they get into their car and leave, no so much as a thank-you/goodbye nothing!

Felt like I should feel bad for wasting their time, when in fact I went out of my way to organise this for them, spent a long time decided which horses would suit them going on their description of what they wanted and the poor kid obviously had no say in what her next horse was going to be!

3 hours later I got home

i had a similar situation when i was selling daughters lead rein/first ridden pony a few years ago. Potential buyer turned up 40 mins late, by this time it was pouring with rain. Daughter rode for them and got soaked, then their child got on rode round and then they decided to take her on a hack. Well off we went and the weather got a lot wetter (like when rain runs off your nose etc) anyway they said they loved her, were really keen etc but as smallest daughter was there would phone me at 6pm to discuss and sort vetting etc. Anyway my mother had cooked a roast buy i decided not to go as this call was important. They didn't bloody ring till after 9pm and then said that they had changed their mind. The annoying thing was is i had called people who were due to come after them and cancelled. ARRRGGGHHH selling horses is one of the most stressful things i have ever done.

On the other hand, if they don't like it, they said they didnt...no advantage in them saying they did like it, they didn't rake the horses round, or beat them up etc. so although they didn't buy anything fair enough imo..

But surely you could say it without being so rude! I have no problem with someone not liking a horse, and saying so, but their attitude was just awful. Arriving an hour late with not so much as a sorry/explanation, just "wheres the toilet?" and then to just leave without saying a word while I was putting the horse away

O dear. Sorry that you had a bad time.
I showed some ppl my pony a copule of years ago... and went out of my way to welcome them. 7 turned up to look at him. Yes I did say 7. three kids wanted to ride him but I only allowed two.

I spent about 2 hours with them. Pony was fab. Did a lovely dressage test in front of them & at only 13.2 he popped some very decent 3'6" poles. Their kids rode ( quite badly actually) and he was a saint.... which is unusual for him as he can be a bit quirky.
They hacked him out... and galloped him up a very large stubble field.
They had said their kids were very experienced, capable and needed a fun ride. They said he wasn't fizzy enough!!!
So they left... leaving an exhausted me behind without so much as a thank you.
Next day they rang to make me an offer....
But I said... Sorry No.
It made me feel loads better!!!

Rude!! Some people never fail to amaze me with their attitude. Sorry you had to waste so much time on what are obviously ignorant fools!

How frightfully rude!! the daughter wasnt called Amy by any chance was she? This girls parents did exactly the same to me when they came to see Harry for sale..

Late, tried the horse then just drove off without saying a word while I was putting him away!! Not so much a thank you!!

Tis just unreal

Complete and utter timewasters. You were probably too polite to suggest they should perhaps get a guinea pig rather than a horse

At my advanced age I would have told them I had a soft spot for them - a warm bog in Ireland

And this is the reason why I ended up selling ALL my riding ponies/ horses via horse sales, just selling untired youngsters to private buyers. One can knock horse sales - but you get the true market value - no hassle (unless one comes back under the 48 hour rule - and if it does, why were you trying to sell it in the first place......??) Please everyone - don't continue to give sales a bad name - they have their place and can be very good places to do business

I truely believe that there are people out there who have no intention of buying a horse or pony but spend their spare time having free rides on other peoples' neds as a result. You get the same thing with " Sunday afternoon house viewers". My mum was selling the family home, advertised as having a 3/4 acre garden and overheard one viewer complaining (as he walked up the drive!) that the garden was too big and would be too much work. They just love being nosey and seeing how other people decorate their rooms etc. and aren't the slightest bit interested in actually buying.
