It’s not just the neck cover, it’s the buckles at the chest. Too high up and pinches/rubs the base of his neck.If you're using a detachable neck, could you not mix and match between brands or sizes, so have a generous neck cover and a less generous rug body?
Too long, the back edge / top of tail flap should be at the root of the tail. The weight of the extra fabric will drag this rug backwards, pulling at the breast straps and neckline.Another rug post sorry
Just looking for people’s thoughts on the fit of this one. Finally found a rug that fits around his neck (just!) but it’s down by his kneesworry that he’ll step on it getting up

Been put off by lots of people who’ve had issues with leaks, but I’m running out of options so may have to try them.Have you tried big horse company or ruggles? They do extra large shoulders on smaller sizes
I did ponder this and might do it. It’s a touch long but not horrible as he’s between sizes. If perfect in every other way, could you ask your local rug repair person to trim a bit off the bottom of the rug to reduce its depth and then sew a new hem/bit of piping on? Shouldn't be too time consuming or difficult for them?
Try one of the XL / big horse cut rugs. I think big horse shop, Horseware / amigo, swish & ruggles offer this. I also found premier equine to fit well on mine with a big neck & chest.
Alternatively go down a size and use a chest expander and buy the neck cover separately?

The struggle is real lol, do you use the heavy horse cut or standard in ruggles? TyI have a horse that has the same issue, fits everywhere lovely except the top strap digs into the base of neck. My go to are Ruggles (turnouts, no idea on stable) and I’ve got/had several and not had issues with them.
His waterproof fly rug is big horse shop (regular fit) but not yet tried any others of theirs as they didn’t have his size when I needed a new rug so got another ruggles.

I tired horseware and they just didnt work and PE are just too heavy for my liking. It might be worth looking at Gallop. I have the Trojan extra and they are turning out to be pretty good rugs. You have to size up and i have found the neck covers to be pretty generous as well. If not, JHL used to be really good. I dont know who else does fronts like that (maybe some of the new shires?)Adjustable chest fastenings would certainly help. Drives me mad how the likes of Rambo have no ability to adjust. PE is very limited in that regard too, albeit a bit better.

Awww he’s gorgeousI got jealous and also decided to join in rug roulette
Think the size below would have fitted better but he’s 3 1/2 & going to grow/ fill out (I hope! Will be blooming cross with myself for all the 5ft9 rugs I got rid of a few years ago (including a circa 2012 premier equine) if not!) Also I plan on only rugging him atm if I actually need him to be clean / dry for some reason so don’t think it will get a lot of use this year but you can guarantee if I didn’t buy a rainsheet I’d need one! Helps that it was only about £28 on offer as old stock!
