Another rug post sorry 🫣
Just looking for people’s thoughts on the fit of this one. Finally found a rug that fits around his neck (just!) but it’s down by his knees 🤦‍♀️ worry that he’ll step on it getting up

Too long, the back edge / top of tail flap should be at the root of the tail. The weight of the extra fabric will drag this rug backwards, pulling at the breast straps and neckline.
Plus it falls below his knees and hocks - too deep, too.
Try size down, or another brand!

If perfect in every other way, could you ask your local rug repair person to trim a bit off the bottom of the rug to reduce its depth and then sew a new hem/bit of piping on? Shouldn't be too time consuming or difficult for them?

Try one of the XL / big horse cut rugs. I think big horse shop, Horseware / amigo, swish & ruggles offer this. I also found premier equine to fit well on mine with a big neck & chest.

Alternatively go down a size and use a chest expander and buy the neck cover separately?

I did ponder this and might do it. It’s a touch long but not horrible as he’s between sizes.

Looked at Big Horse but they appear very snug under the neck. PE just about fit last year but he’s expanded since then and now it strangles him. going to try amigo XL and maybe one other and if no good I’ll get the Rambo adjusted I think.

It’s not just the neck cover, it’s the buckles at the chest. Too high up and pinches/rubs the base of his neck.

I have a horse that has the same issue, fits everywhere lovely except the top strap digs into the base of neck. My go to are Ruggles (turnouts, no idea on stable) and I’ve got/had several and not had issues with them.

His waterproof fly rug is big horse shop (regular fit) but not yet tried any others of theirs as they didn’t have his size when I needed a new rug so got another ruggles.

The struggle is real lol, do you use the heavy horse cut or standard in ruggles? Ty 😊

Standard as he is “normal” size everywhere else, just has huge shoulders and a deep neck.

I do have an amigo XL fly rug as struggled to find one to fit him and it was recommended on here. It’s a bit too big everywhere else so would think a heavy horse cut would swamp him.

I also like the fit of JHL turnouts on him but not sure if they are still about much these days, mine are quite old.

What type of neck fastenings have you tried? I only ask because i steer clear of fixed ones like clip only or sircingle type ones as they allow no adjustment. I now only look at one with buckles and clips so i can adjust to fit. Mine has a deep low set neck and while not broad shoulders, big shoulder. I'm currently using Gallop for that reason.
PE, Horseware have only clips so just didnt work, they dug in and made the rug shoot forward when she put her head down, a lot of shires rug where either clips or buckles so did the same, weatherbeeta did have clips that could be at different point but still not adjustable enough.

Adjustable chest fastenings would certainly help. Drives me mad how the likes of Rambo have no ability to adjust. PE is very limited in that regard too, albeit a bit better.

I tired horseware and they just didnt work and PE are just too heavy for my liking. It might be worth looking at Gallop. I have the Trojan extra and they are turning out to be pretty good rugs. You have to size up and i have found the neck covers to be pretty generous as well. If not, JHL used to be really good. I dont know who else does fronts like that (maybe some of the new shires?)

I got jealous and also decided to join in rug roulette 🤣

Think the size below would have fitted better but he’s 3 1/2 & going to grow/ fill out (I hope! Will be blooming cross with myself for all the 5ft9 rugs I got rid of a few years ago (including a circa 2012 premier equine) if not!) Also I plan on only rugging him atm if I actually need him to be clean / dry for some reason so don’t think it will get a lot of use this year but you can guarantee if I didn’t buy a rainsheet I’d need one! Helps that it was only about £28 on offer as old stock!

Been put off by lots of people who’ve had issues with leaks, but I’m running out of options so may have to try them.

I've only had issues with the Ruggles no fill. None of the other turnout rugs I have from them (50g, 100g) have leaked. Similarly Big Horse Shop, I have a 40g and a 200g and neither have leaked. All of them bar the 200g have seen multiple years of use and have stood up to torrential rain.

Awww he’s gorgeous 😍

@Nocturnal I’ve just realised something from a comment on another thread… would it be a 6ft3 you’d be after if you were to get an Amigo XL?

I’m debating selling my 0g as given that a normal cut 6ft is big on new pony I think it’s unlikely that he’s going to take a 6ft3 XL unless he grows more than I think he’s going to.

Only issue is it’s not currently clean as not really been in right headspace to sort that out. Think it’s in otherwise good shape and only really been used for part of one winter. (I do also have a barely used medium neck and an unused 100g liner)

Totally understand that buying new with option to return probably a more attractive prospect & it being unclean makes it even less so but thought I’d mention. (If not I will just send it to be cleaned at some point and shove it away for a few years just in case pony surprises me)
