Rugged or Rugless???

It's very warm, rugless is healthiest for them - unless you have a sensitive horse like my TB.

I'll pop a rain sheet overnight on him, but on other horses, especially native types I wouldn't.

I,m leaving my horse rugless during the day but he has a lightweight on at night (whilst its raining). He is happier if he is out at night in the rain with a rug. I also ride alot early in the mornings so at least he is dry!!

I'm rugging mine, just for the reason that I have a wimpish TB and I feel a bit guilty for rugging him and not everyone in that field..

I've just put rugs on the 2 TBs, the fine connie X and my Section A (I feel sorry for her at the moment!) but the other 3 ponies are rugless.

I'm kind of regretting putting their rugs on though as the sun has come out again and they have a barn they can shelter in when it rains......think I'll leave them off tomorrow what ever the weather!

My warmblood has a lightweight sheet on for the simple reason that he was so unbelievably filthy yesterday when I went to ride him I had to bath him first. Don't have time for that so he's got a rug on. I have a jacket on today too LOL ;)

Our wimpy, mainly TB had a lightweight last night and tonight, but only cos she had a chiropractor treatment yesterday.................our other horse is naked!

my shetland and highland youngster are naked however my other highland has a lightweight rug as she had a accident on monday so want to keep her warm plus she really feels cold and gets ill quickly even in summer if she is cold and wet.

All rugless.....far too warm. If it carries on tommorow,I'll bring them in for a bit of a rest and then chuck 'em out again unrugged. Mine are not working at the moment though, either in foal, resting or retired.....

My full TB has not had a rug on in the rain (which has admittedly been not much round here so far!!) although there has been some wind, TBH i just don't think it's really been cold enough. He seems absolutely fine, except whinnying and racing round when it's time to come in and it's raining, but he does that when it's barely drizzling too, so he's obvs just a bit of a girl ;)

He does come in at night though (yard's rule not mine, if it were my choice he would be out there 24/7 ;) )

Well Ive put my Rambo wug on my horse :eek::eek:

Only joking, rugless, its summer. My horse struggles more in the hot weather weve had. This rains a welcome relief. All the horses on the yard are rugless, some are oldies and all are fine.

It would not occur to rug my horses at this time of year - rain or no rain. Can see them now all happily grazing out in the middle of the field with the rain tipping down - ignoring their field shelter - from the comfort of my kitchen.

I can see the point of a rain sheet if your horse is prone to rain scald but otherwise I think there is too much of a tendency to believe they feel the way we do.
