When, (roughly) do rugs start to come out?
I can't remember when I started rugging Roo up last year
But this summer is going fast and it wont be long now till winter is here

Mine have both already had lightweight turnouts on (when it's raining) and i've taken their fleeces down the yard. Though I had an oldie and a tb that gets very cold so I have to rug up early.

Weather permitting i'll start to have rugs on most nights from late september, and then see how it goes :D

When the pony was younger he'd go until november at least without a rug on at all, so you have to decide based on your horse i guess

:)

Mine is in LW tonight as meant to be down to 10 and raining. Please don't say this is the end of the summer. How depressing!

Dizz doesn't feel the cold, but I don't want her to drop weight (she lost a bit at camp), so if the weather continues like this it will be the l/w neckless rainsheet.

Little Cob needs to lose some blubber, but is lame and off to the Animal Health Trust next week, so he'll be getting a full clip before he goes. After the clip he'll have a l/w on if the weather stays as it is.

We're starting to use a light sheet at night. (He's stabled). Given the weather forecast here for the next 5 days a lightweight rain sheet too.

Sorry - start of the rugging season....

Ours have got lots of natural shelter so not rugging at the moment. But if they didn't have shelter my trigger is when it is cold winds and rain. We may yet have an Indian Summer (said hopefully)...

It's going to have to cool down a fair bit yet till the rugs come out for our two. We are lucky that they seem to be real warm types so we would just cook them in l/w atm! They also have a smidge more cover than I would like so don't want to rug too soon. If it is due to tip down and be about 10 or below then the l/w will be out, fly sheets only until then!

Mine start wearing rugs when they are clipped at the end of October and come in at night. They have to wear rugs all winter as they are clipped and SI bodies all summer, so I like to give them the end of September onwards without anything on. If it turns very cold, wet and windy I will put a no fill t/o on at night as our field has no shelter.

This year Stinky will be full clipped at the end of September to give him a "summer" coat for the TGCA championships at the end of October, so will be then wearing a LW or if it turns very cool, a MW rug to keep him dry and warm.

The TB will have a lightweight rain sheet on if it's really wet but won't be rugged properly until he's clipped.

The Section A will be naked until clipped.

And the yearling will be naked for the majority of the winter, lightweight sheet will go on if really wet or snowy.
