Star is beginning to lose her mane - not good for a horse who is shown 'au naturel'. She is sporting a Mark Todd Combi, which apparently, is the worst brand for breaking hair.

Is it possible to get it converted to either neckless, or cut the neck off and make it detachable?

tuck the neck in if she's not clipped, my friend cut her's off one of her rugs and ruined it so i showed her how to tuck it in and she does that now

i have had two of mine made to neckless, but to be honest its quite expensive. Easier to buy a new standard one and sell the other!

I have a mark todd combi and yes, agree they are the worst for ruining a mane!! I have a dress circle turnout hood under mine which has stopped the problem in it's tracks, I have also been known to use a full neck fleece (but obviously this depends on how hairy your horse is!)

My friend has one of the Mark Todd combos and her horse's mane has come out in handfulls, just underneath the 'gusset' part over the withers. She thinks it's caused by static, but I reckon it is the constant rubbing of the gusset. She has sewn some extra lining over the whole mane part so that the gusset is covered over, hoping that his mane wouldn't get trapped in it again. Unfortunately it's a bit early days to tell whether it is working or not.

They are quite popular rugs though, so if it was me I would be inclined to sell it and buy a rug with a detachable neck. I swapped a Weatherbeeta combo (which rubbed) for a Rambo Supreme this year and so far we still have a whole mane... Hope it lasts!
