I am having such great difficulty getting a rug to fit my narrow arab x welsh mare.
I have always used shires rugs they last well and are a good fit for her. I need a lightweight rug so buy a shires and it swamps her....the neck is gapping and the belly straps will not do up short enough.

I also have a well fitting amigo and needed a combo heavyweight so buy an amigo combo....its huge on her :(.

So, what rugs fit ponies best? Rugs now seem to be so deep and generous they just are no good for her.

I think I will try an amigo lightweight? Should I go down a size?

What size is she in?

Ideally you need to buy pony rugs as they are made with the correct proportions. Many other rugs will be horse rugs just in a shorter length, they don't proportion the size down correctly so the'll always be too big around the shoulders/depth.

Not sure if that makes sense but I know what I mean :o

All mine are in amigo rugs inc slim built arab and i find the sizing of them to be on the small side but definatly the best fit around the chest with no gapingand leaking! Could you not get a medium weight and put a fleece rug underneath for extra warmth when needed

All my ponies (I have 4) are in Shires, Weatherbeeta or Amigo rugs. They are well proportioned sports ponies (Mix of native and warmblood). They are in 5ft6-9s, and measure 13.1-14.2h.

Petite pony was great for my 12.2hh. And I got to dress him up in funky patterns :-D weatherbeta are quite good for little ones I found as well. :-)

The best fit I have found for my narrow pony was Loveson, I have one of their turnouts in every weight

Best for stable rugs was Shires

The Loveson rugs are cheap too but all of mine came through the winter and have scrubbed up like new

Best fit on ours is Amigo. I heard a rumour Premier Equine were bringing out pony rugs this year...pleeeaaaase,I hope they do:)

My 4yo is narrow, not very deep and in a 5'6 rug, most of which swamp him.

Best I've tried on him so far is JHL. The belly straps still need taking up, but the rest of it (including the chest) isn't too bad on him. Weatherbeeta are too generous in the chest. Shires are huge, and way too long for him... he looks like he's wearing a dress!

I've got the 1200 denier amigo lite on my exmoor. You buy the neck separately and so I was able to get a couple of sizes up, as she has a long neck and sweet itch, so I want max protection for her. It's in its second season and still looks great.

Amigo do specific pony rugs and I find the cut better for ponies
Not everyone sells them but if you have a google to should find some suppliers
