Run ins on HHO apart from UI what do you do?

A lot of people get pleasure for saying it as it is, for instance, being downright blunt and rude about something because that is how they are and of the mindset that people shouldn't post if they can't take the replies, however, there are ways of saying something that completely gets the message across, however passionate you are about something, that doesn't have to be offensive. To the point, yes, but but not offensive.

Unfortunately, some people get great pleasure from upsetting people when if their people skills were tuned a tad they would be more well respected and less seen as a bully or nasty person.

Some pearls of wisdom there. This is what i think, i just wouldnt have been able to put it into words properly!

I try to let it wash over me, you don't agree with everyone you meet in real life, I've had a couple of ding-dongs but those same people, I agree with on some other issues and however bitchy people want to brand the people who use this forum, you can still get a lot of help if you need it.

I've never had a falling out with anyone on the forum. I've probably annoyed a few though because I'm usually really blunt. If people don't like me they can put me on UI. I'll try my best to help anyone out, especially unhappy people, but if they want tea and sympathy they generally don't get it from me. I'm more of a practical person. Apart from anything else, if I sugar coated all my replies they'd be way too long and I'd have permanent thumb-ache. I think life is too short to be unhappy if there's another option so I never hold a grudge. There's only two people on here who I actively dislike and I skim over anything they write because its nearly always nonsense.

Agree!

the run ins these days are nothing compared with what went on before the button pushing mob took over. The run ins could go on for weeks and no one seemed to get overly upset. I have no difficulties with run ins these days as I hardly ever post and when I do, no one answers! :D

This. The good old days. These days I know who to ignore and do so.

Ive never used UI! Sometimes i think people are being rude but if I look back later I usually see they are just being blunt/could have worded it better so I usually ignore it unless I'm 100% sure it's not just me being over sensitive, theres a few posters who have seemed pretty rude but have given me good straight to the point advice which i really appreciate :) there's very rarely a deliberately nasty poster on here and they don't hang around long!

I've had one run-in with two people. One apologised later. One I still think is a nasty, vile toad. Other than that incident, I've disagreed with folks, but still read their posts and offer help and advice if I have any knowledge, or join in the banter with them. It's actually been quite good training as I can get quite fearful about others' opinion of me  :D

I've just had a lovely time debating with several other posters in SB, and although it got quite controversial at times I don't think anyone took offence at my posts. I try not to be rude by name calling or similar but I love a good debate with well reasoned arguments from a variety of perspectives, even though I then try to convert everyone to see my point of view :o

It can be difficult sometimes with written words though to get tone from someone else's posts so unless it really is out and out nasty, and I can think of one banned again but keeps reincarnating herself individual who is that way, but on the whole I've found people here to be quite reasonable.

I just hope I'm not blinkered about how my posts come across :o

I've had opinionated discussions with people but I have never been personally upset by anyone, never button pushed or UI. I also have a crap memory so I don't usually link people to threads.

Life is too short I just say my piece and move on. Happy if folks want to ignore. I can't stand it when the pack moves in on newbies as it's really unpleasant.

Yes, almost like herd behaviour, isn't it? The newcomer, especially if they hold strong views or beliefs, really is put through the mill, and many are chased off. Only the fittest survive.

I don't take a difference of opinion personally, so when things are getting silly or boring, I'll walk away. I've never used UI and forget pretty quickly whoever I don't see eye to eye with. Some of them I respect for their sincerity and informed opinion, a well reasoned debate is always interesting.

I do raise an eyebrow when someone pretends to own several horses or posts simply to cause disharmony on the forum amongst regulars but generally the truth comes out at some point.

this^^^
when a newbie on their first post warns people to be careful if a horse has plaits in its mane they get annihilated! What is worse is that the replies are couched in HHO inspeak so the OP has no chance of understanding.

I try to be polite and kind, if I can't I'll leave. Sometimes I'll have a few days break - just to prove to myself that I can live without HHO. I come back because usually it's fun and people are nice.

Well yes, I'm totally guilty of that one. I can't stand it when people don't use the search function first though and check there aren't already 900 threads running about the same thing! I do post a HHO inspeak remark then, because I think it's deserved!

I try not to dissuade new posters from posting by behaving like this, as it may be detrimental to their horse.

Could never put anyone on UI - far too nosey to risk missing out :p

It's not RL; it's a place where you can learn, debate or ignore. Everyone has a choice.

Was also guilty of putting a facetious comment on Patches thread but haven't lost any sleep over it.

I lurked for ages (about 5 years off and on :o) before coming on as a) never been on a forum in my life before and b) wanted to get the feel of it before taking the plunge.

Anyone who wades in with a first post stating something rather incredible is going to get the a**e ripped out of them but in a friendly way and their reaction to it will determine their acceptance going forward. If you can't take the heat get out of the fire.

As for people pm'ing nasty things - am really shocked about that  Isn't it the whole point of the forum to be public to its members?

I don't think I do it or would do it if it were a serious issue but a plait in mane?? I don't think I'm about to kill a pony with that one!

If everyone did this there would hardly be any new posts. There are only so many horse-related topics to discuss.

Why is that a bad thing??

On here it seems like you are right.

Help! My horse has a Wella-award winning plait.

Help! My horse is barefoot.

Help! My horse is shod.

Help! My horse is dangerous, yet talented.

Help! My horse thinks the vet/farrier is crap.

Help! My horse thinks the vet/farrier is adorable and very clever and I want to marry him/her.

Help! My horse won't be caught.

Help! My horse has a thousand rugs. Which one for 12.5 degrees celcius?

Help! My horse is a cob.

Perhaps there should just be a drop down box. Would make it easier and there would be less spelling mistakes. :D

I'm another who has such a rubbish memory that I mostly can't remember who I've had run-ins with! :D I'm not a grudge-bearer in life generally, and here's no exception.

I've put two people on UI in the past (both males, I don't know if that says something about me ). However I calmed down and sheer nosiness made me remove the UI facility after quite a short while. :p One of them I've since decided is actually harmless, and the other I found tedious rather than annoying in the end.

I sometimes find it distressing when someone who seems rather vulnerable or says they're feeling very low gets a rough time. It's not real life, but feelings can still get hurt. When people say "it's only a forum" they maybe forget that fact.

I've no idea whether I wind some posters up or annoy people. I certainly don't mean to, but I know I can get a bit heated at times. I do hope I never come across as nasty, I'd hate that. :(
