No real point to this but 18 months after Tinner was PTS, and over a year since I had a 20 minute sit on my retired cob I have booked a proper riding lesson, and I’m a bit nervous!

It is a group lesson max of four, so when I’m exhausted from trotting one circuit I can pull into the middle and rest (if the instructor isn’t fierce and allows me to do that)…

I will have a few lessons or maybe hacks and see just how much I want to ride, my mojo has gone but maybe I will find it again.

wish me luck - it’s next Tuesday.

Aw yay very exciting! Do update us on how it goes :)

I'm not a fan of group lessons (they stress me out!) but a group of four sounds like an ideal number and probably quite fun. I do think I miss out on some things by being on my own all the time in my lessons.

How sensible to return by trying it out.
In my case, not riding during lock down was a bad thing health wise. Riding seems to stabilise my weight and improve my balance. It strengthens one's ankles and requires many tiny muscle movements to keep one upright - And if you can enjoy it too and meet other riders, that is an added benefit.

No worries, you'll be fine. I returned after 25+ years not riding. For a private half-hour lesson. Okay, I DID walk funny afterwards, but the virus bit me alright. Was hooked again from the first minute. (To the slight dismay of my boyfriend, it being such a time-consuming hobby).

Long story short, two years later I owned my first horse. Hope you get your mojo back! Bet you will... you never really unlearn. Sorry you lost your Tinner. Maybe you'll find a new, different, horse to like or love.

Wishing you lots of fun!

I’ve had the lesson!
I had a sensible cob of around 16hh, and shared a lesson with just one other. My hips let me down a lot, I mean I struggled to get on and getting off was hell, after half an hour I’d had enough for my first time - I’m actually proud that I didn’t land on my backside when I got off! I did enjoy it apart from the hip pain, and the good horse was a bit lumpy in the trot which didn’t help, but I think I will book some slow and easy hacks so I don’t ask too much of myself too quickly.

And find a close Pilates and/or yoga class.

It’s a weird thing isn’t it!? My Instructor was saying ‘you have a good position’ and I was thinking I bloomin’ well should after donkeys years of riding, shame I’m as inflexible as a scaffolding board! I hope you have a fabulous ride!

At least you didn’t have to clean sopping wet tack! I am thinking that a hack would have been an easier choice than a lesson!

I sympathise with the "old bones" bit as it is a couple of years since I last rode regularly and, even then, a 30 min lesson was enough!! Enjoy the hack -but I bet the bug bites again and you are off on a lesson or two sometime soon......;);)

You must be very close to me if you ride at Cheston, and if you did RDA there you must know Peggy? She is still going strong just nearby at the Brook.
