Since when did two wrongs make a right? He is renowned for his barbarity, surely we shouldn't stoop to his level?

Sorry to say it, but I would watch the footage if it was shown over here.

Bet you can find it on the internet. Wasn't there a beheading (from a distance) shown in Fahrenheit 911?

its not the actual killing that bothers me - I'm just not entirely sure why anyone would actually want to sit down and video it to the publish it online for people to gawp at.

In Saudi Arabia anyone can go along to public executions. A student of mine once told me his dad took him to one when he was a kid so that he would be aware of the consequence of his actions. It's very much a cultural thing. Arabs believe very strongly in Capital Punishment BUT a man can be pardoned by the family against whom the crime was committed.

The problem with the death penalty for Saddam Hussain, to me is where do we draw the line, does it matter, in terms of the death penalty, how many people he was responsible for the death of, one or tousands. I don't aggree with the death penalty at all, and the difference between human execution and the death of an animal is that the human knows full well what is about to happen, watching it seems to devalue us all to me.

The cultural aspect does exist and it is my understanding that usually the family concerned pardon the offender if blood money is paid, to reflect the loss of income from the victim. This is not a possible resolution in this case, I think. Also the other problem for me with the execution of SH is that this was initiated by western politicians who have been responsible for many thousands of Iraqi deaths.

Tony Blair and President Bush certainly have a lot of blood on their hands.... I hate that TB is so far up Bush's arse - he should have listened to the country when we said we didn't want to go to war.

Its strange to think that just 60 years or so ago our society witnessed hanging as part of our punishment system!!
Personally I sit on the fence a little here as at first I was "yeh hang the barstard" but now its done I find it all quite eerie and a little sad....not for him personally you understand!!

Imagine being an executioner....doesn't it make them as guilty as the accused???

Did he have any remorse at the end? Wonder if he felt any shame for all he did? Don't think they should show it here and wonder what TB really thinks. GB no doubt will say something profound - NOT!

I've just watched the video of the noose being put around his neck and him being led over the trap door...........quite honestly it made me feel sick.

How I would feel if it had been my friends or relatives he had ordered tortured and murdered is another thing.

I think we are placing Western Values on a situation that we find difficult to comprehend. The Death Penalty is merely yet another cultural difference.

Not that long ago in Britain people would be out in the streets watching a public execution for entertainment. It may seem to wrong to use to to others its their way of doing things.

While I don't agree with the death sentence per se I have to say Iraq is in a very different situation to the west. I think of the execution of the war criminals after the second world war. People had lost loved ones and homes and of course there is the suffering of the Jewish population. An end had to be drawn and perhaps holding a small number of people to account (i.e they were hung) helped in some small way.

I think they've just created another "martyr" for the cause.

and for the next few years we'll get anniversary suicide bombers 'celebrating'.

Bush & Blair are more sadistic, dictorial and bloodthirsty than many other leaders of the world.

Thank god he's gone, he was a tyrant and a bully on a massive scale and deserved to die. At least there justice system knows how to punish murderers. In this country there are paedophiles and murderers and rpaists in this country that need hangin but there not.

I def agree with you!! This world is so full of violence, death, and horrible things it's actually scary to think about! All these people deserve to be severly punished.
