Hi.. I'm new here, might as well start of with asking for a bit of advice!
I lurk around this forum alot and have to say if there ever I time I need any help on anything I come here first before anywhere else because usually whatever I need to get advice on someone had experienced it here at some point! However struggling with my current issue so thought I'd better join and ask away.
I have 4 horses (only two ridden as ones a 20yr old shetland and one broodmare due to foal any day), my latest being a just turned 7 year old Registered Connemara mare. Have to say I've owned various breeds over the years but this is my first connie and the one I need advice on.
Basically having issues with saddles. I have an 17.5" med Albion K2 jump for my big lad, which I absolutely love but I tried it on her and it seems to be a bit small width wise, too narrow as it perched on top of her with a bit of a wobble side to side yet drowned her in every other way. I did try it and had a sit on see how she went it it but soon as I tried canter it slipped up her neck causing her to buck all round the school.. obviously not at all her fault so off I got.
I've tried a friends saddle today, just trying to get an idea of what kind of width she needs and it was a wide, fit her much better over the wither but I still felt a bit perched on top with nothing in front of me and still wobbled a bit side to side regardless of girth being tight.
She has a bit of an odd shape. She has barely any wither and a fairly flat back yet is so narrow on her shoulders it's like there's nothing there.
Can anyone recommend a good saddle to fit her relatively odd shape. Once I've found one that fits reasonable well I will get my saddle fitter out. He doesn't carry second hand saddle only adjusts the one you have. I don't know of any saddle fitters local to me that stock reasonably priced saddles. I don't want to spend a fortune just yet as she is going to fill out alot more.. I hope she is anyway.. She seems to have the body of a Connie and the shoulders of a young TB lol. I'd ideally like something with some knee roll as I do like to jump but can bit a bit wimpy and like the security of the knee rolls!
Anyway if you made it through all that then thankyou for reading and any advice much appreciated!
