Few questions...

1) Can anyone recommend a good saddle fitter in Cheshire? The only place I know of around here that fits saddles is Crewe saddlery (which is now specializing in only saddles so I believe?) and I don't know if they are any good??

2) Even if I get a saddle fitted asap, there's no way I can afford one immediately. I'm aware that the saddle I have for my horse is less than perfect, but it does fit just about, and could be a lot worse. However, is there anything I can do that might relieve some of the pressure that it may be causing him? He's not at all distressed by being tacked up or anything, and has no major ridden issues (yet...) but I know I need to get this sorted out for his benefit sooner rather than later

3) Can anyone recommend any synthetic jumping saddles that are half-decent? The saddle I plan on buying first will be a dressage saddle, but I don't want to entirely give up jumping, even if it just means the odd 2'6 class and farm rides every now and then! And because I jump with my stirrups so short, jockey-style maybe?

my knees tend to come over dressage/GP saddle knee rolls!

However I can't see me ever having a lot of money after buying a new saddle!

I would go and by an Equigel pad, we use these on youngsters whilst they are changing shape and also if an owner has a saddle that doesn't quite fit and they can't afford a new one.

You can find your own saddle by getting an old wire coat hanger and moulding it to the horse where the saddle goes, draw round it noting near and offside and cut round it and then go and find a saddle that matches.

I would recommend the ideal saddle range, i have these for all my horses, VSD, Event, Jessica and the normal dressage saddles, the trees can be opened and closed to a certain extent by a professional master saddler.

I personally don't recommend the synthetics as most horses seem to have problems with them, that is apart from the cob type.

Thank you, I will take all of that into consideration

I've heard a lot about the Ideal range, and will definitely have a good look at their saddles and hopefully try some? There are a few other saddles I'm also interested in though too, but mostly just want something that we both like, no matter what that is!

Thanks for your help

I have used Crewe saddlery a lot and find them brilliant.Wouldn't go to anyone else now.Personally speaking I would want a trained saddle fitter to fit any saddle forme.I have learned the hard way (and so have my horses at times poor things!).I also love my thorowgood synthetic saddles.

Will probably give Crewe a call then as I know where it is at least! Plus can go have a look at a few saddles there and talk to them beforehand I presume?

Definitely want this saddle fitted, I don't mind paying a fair bit as long as the saddle is a decent one and going to last and be comfortable for us both.

Will have a look at Thorowgood now...

The Wintec version of the Lady Isobel Werth dressage saddle is the only synthetic that I have found comfortable, and I found it gave me a good position, unlike the standard Wintec ones.

I did actually have a Wintec Pro dressage saddle at one point and loved that, but had to sell it :/ Lovely saddle though.....

Off down to Crewe saddlery now to have a look around!
