Today I took my daughter, her friend and their ponies to the gallops to let off a bit of steam.
Daughters pony had a saddle fitted about 9 months ago and we were told to get it checked once it had bedded in- about 6 months. However after 6 months due to one thing or another he'd only been ridden a handful of times so I figured I'd leave it until he was in proper work.
So it is due a check and re flock I presume.
I recorded her galloping and noticed that there is a fair bit of movement in the saddle at speed, it's bouncing a bit on his back.
Friends pony turned out no where near fit enough and only trotted so I had nothing to compare it to.
Is a bit of movement expected?
Slightly worried as he is sensitive and I'm a bit poor right now!!! Don't kneed to be buying another saddle if I can help it.
Of course I will be getting the fitter back out anyway but like to be a bit more clued up as you hear so many horror stories.

Is it a saddle company saddle?

Oh really!? Drat I half thought you were going to say you were my fitter whom I've just explained the issue too!
I'd be really annoyed, I did so much asking round and was told the serge panels are so great etc that I figured it a safe buy.
What did you replace yours with?

A Jefferies falcon.

Long story short I had a SC fitter out, she fitted it and it moved a lot.
She reckoned it needed bedding in but the movement was extreme.

I went for a master saddler, he said it was much too wide and that he tried to stock the SC ones but had massve problems with having to go back constantly reflocking them.

It's put me right off, I'm now sticking with what I know and a saddler who is properly trained as a master saddler. I could go and do the SC course tomorrow if I wanted and call myself a fitter. In my case, leather was the better option.

Ps. Not all SC fitters are just those type of fitters, some are actual saddlers and also fit SC ones. Mine, however, was not.
