Saddle seller had my negative feedback removed!

Sad then that so many horses are being ridden un uncomfy lumpy saddles and so many riders risking their safety with those bars if the horse spooks.

If I'm honest, ten years ago I wouldn't have known the difference. Would not have known the saddle was dangerous, or that it would cause discomfort to my horse. Even though I would have classed myself as knowledgable and experienced. I don't think many of the people buying the saddles would have a clue.

The saddle is certainly NOT hand made as the seller so often boasts about on the saddles they sell!
I've added them to my blocked bidders list as I have several job lots of saddlery on ebay and I wouldn't give them the pleasure of bidding on it!
Oz

I've reported them to trading standards now. Probably won't get anywhere, but at least I have done all I can to get my voice heard.

I did notice when looking at their feedbck as a buyer that a big proportion of the people they have bought off are 'no longer a registered user'. I know that people drop out of ebay all the time but the proportion of them on their feedback is disproportionate compared with others. Rather iffy I think.

Sounds a bit suss doesn't it, I have campaigned for years with trading standards and office of fair trading about people describing items as "hand made" or named brands when they aren't.
People selling these items will always do it, you'll never stop it but they ought to be honest about the item and not describe utter rubbish as "quality" or hand made.
Trading Standards told me they needed expert views which I provided from myself and some of my saddlery colleagues but nothing was ever done , it just fizzled out, they really haven't got a clue about good or bad saddlery so we are on sliding slope with trading standards!

The misleading feedback has been going on for years. I very nearly got duped by a fraudster on ebay in 2005, selling counterfeit autographed photos and other memorabilia. Being already suss of paypal, I'd opted for the cheque payment, which turned out to be my saving grace. I left negative feedback after three weeks to say something along the lines of 'emailed and contacted numerous times for payment details. No response.' When you looked through the feedback (stupidly I did that after the bid), they had 1000s of feedback per year and the negative ones either said the same as me or that the goods were fake. The seller retaliated by leaving ME negative feedback as 'non-paying bidder'. I was bloody fuming and went through ebay as you did, showing them the emails and ebay messages as proof I'd tried to contact the guy numerous times. Ebay simply said they couldn't remove it. Later they allowed him to hide all feedback. Really?!? Later still he disappeared and another user with similar goods suddenly appeared. Funny that...

Good luck with your quest. I don't use ebay and haven't since 2005. Been tempted a couple of times, then resisted. Surprisingly the roof of the world hasn't dropped in on me and I manage to buy everything I need elsewhere - normally cheaper, too!

Amazon is pretty good and often cheaper than ebay, there's also ebid.
I think we've all been had via ebay by someone, I am wary as well and haven't sold much on ebay lately until now when I needed to shift some stock but you have to be quite strict with the listing and make it clear you won't take any cash on collection, offers, etc, it's just as bad as a seller as a buyer some times!
There's some very unscrupulous people out there.

I also think that ebay make such a lot of money out of some sellers that they are untouchable. Small scale sellers have it hard, but power sellers are king. 100% positive feedback means nothing. Sad for thos who genuinely do have 100% positive. :(

Ebay has changed a while ago when I was selling regularly on there if you had a neg you didn't have 100% but not I see sellers with 100% and they have several negs, do you know how that works or am I just having a thick day?

I think the % is only calculated over the current year.

Now I realise why they have such good feedback if they get ebay to remove all the negative comments. I won't let this one lie. That saddle was dangerous!

I'm all incensed for you!

You very kindly gave me a tip a couple of days ago (the Prequestrian thread) to claim my money back through Paypal for my rug that never arrived. I didn't know that buyers had protection through Paypal, but I do now. And my refund has just come through this evening so I am just sitting here thinking kind thoughts about you :)

I actually looked at the same listing, thought the saddle in the pic looked a bit iffy and went elsewhere. I have bought stuff from the same seller with no trouble but that was a while ago. They had a real shop too, don't know if they still do. Don't think they used to sell as much rubbish as they do now. Getting greedy I reckon.

Shocking about the feedback-does it say on their feedback thingy that it's been removed?

http://uk.ebid.net/ Maybe we should promote this site a bit more? Anyone used it? Cotswoldsport are sellers on there, I think.

I use it but very rarely manage to sell on there, it just hasn't got the coverage of ebay.

I bought a re-con laptop off ebay it packed up after two weeks, I contacted seller - was ignored, then I left negative feedback, it dissapeared after 2 days. They were a top rated seller too!

So, it seems quite rife then, as others have said, the power sellers earn ebay the money so it's in their interests to keep them sweet, one big con by the sound of it!

Excellent news!

It's sickening.

I sold an item via ebay this weekend. Buyer messaged me asking if I'd except an offer, I gave them my email address and ended the listing. Buyer got what they wanted for what they wanted to pay and I didn't lose out apart from the £1.56 listing fees.

No 10% for ebay from me and I have a happy customer. :D

Feedback is a waste of time. I was a bit miffed to find out that all my excellent DSRs had gone too. They only last a year. Rowlocks.

Someone clever could set up an alternative feedback site .
Wagtail if you have the energy why don't set one of the consumer programmes on them like watch dog or you and yours on radio 4 if eBay are manipulating the feedback results for big sellers that's a story .

Yes, I am thinking about going to watchdog.

Could it not just be due to the legal issues with publishing negative stuff. If you buy a dud horse from an "I'm not a dealer" dealer, you can't announce it here, even if you hear other people recommending them.

Ebay perhaps get threatened with legal stuff pretty regularly and their choice of response may be to remove any negative stuff drawn to their attention rather than stopping people from giving reviews at all, IYKWIM?

It sucks, I feel bad for you and I hate the censorship, but I'm not in the least bit surprised. :(

I offered to reword to something they would find acceptable, but this was declined. Basically I have a right to give feedback, and this was prevented. Ebay would not disclose why.

I just looked at their feedback. Did you see someone put as neutral feedback "Long time for delivery and refund payment, required chasing, all refunded now" and their response was "Be kinder than necessary, because everybody is fighting some kind of battle". WTF?! Sorry but don't go into business if you can't give good customer service. If there is a genuine reason why you can't give a refund until a certain date then flipping well say, don't make up a load of rubbish.

That was for an Optimus synthetic leather saddle.

Thank you. Yes, I saw this too. I thought the reply was rather odd. I have now written to the MD of EBay by email. I doubt I will get anywhere, but you never know.

I think there have been other buyers that have had their neg feedback removed. Not just from this seller's feedback. But others are getting it removed with no explanation. :(

It's not fair is it.

Had you put neutral feedback, it probably would've stayed there as this does not affect the feedback score. However, because you felt your experience was rather negative that's not allowed.

I could understand the seller being upset if she'd provided a good customer service and gave you accurate information, however, by the sounds of it she didn't and so the negative feedback would be justified.

Hopefully Mr Ebay will be helpful. Definitely deserves a big complaint!

I'm a business seller on eBay and someone negged me saying the item they bought off me was a 'fake' although I had proof of purchase that it wasn't! Funnily enough they refused to send back for a full refund even though I said I'd arrange and pay for a courier! Now, eBay refused to look into and remove this feedback! So I had to put up with this unfair feedback on my profile for a year or whatever it is until it times out and is removed.

Don't even get me started on the shambles of their feedback system!

The 'system' definitely needs a shake up. Quite a few times I've had neg feedback with the feedback 'never received item' arghhhhhh well contact me and tell me and I'll resolve it! So what happens, I refund or replace, buyer changes the feedback to positive. One cheeky so and so after that scenario buys from me months later and claims again they hadnt received item (message received was 'wheres my item!!!!!' I noticed this happened last time and said that it was highly unlikely it would have gotten lost in the post again and if they wouldn't mind waiting a day or 2 to see if it turned up, well never heard from them again! I'm afraid some people play the system quite shamelessly as its so easy!
