hiya x i had a lavinia mitchel saddle fitted a few months ago and had the saddler out a few weeks ago for a reflocking. the saddle is fitted with a shim numnah OR halfpad (whichever i want to put on), and i was extremely happywith the fit. however, the saddle seems to be moving quite a lot at the back. it sways from side to side and there is "scrubby" patches of hair that looks broken off.
Also, recently it is slipping quite badly from side to side. i brought a prolite saddle stay pad to put under my halfpad, which works wonderfully to keep the numnah in place...BUT the saddle is still moving around on top! its so frustrating as i feel so unbalanced and uncomfortable...to the point where i just cant be bothered and end up riding bareback. and also i cant buy a non slip numnah because if have to use the shim numnahs i got with it....grrrr!!
any advice on the slipping and rubbing?

Have you tried the antislip matting that they use in caravans etc to stop plates, cups moving . Wilkinsons, homebase etc sell it on a roll, its cheap and works superbly at stopping the saddle slipping or moving

sounds to me like the saddler needs to come back!

a saddle moving that much that the hair is getting broken is not right and it needs to be sorted out.

good luck

Get your saddler back, they should be able to make the saddle fit with no special pads, or they have sold you an unsuitable saddle. Contact the society of master saddlers or gogle their site for getting yourself informed.

saddles should not slip get your saddler back but round cobby types are hard to fit, have you seen the leather girth by Heritage it has a none slip bit put under the chest section i bought one and am very pleased with it good luck.

I fit mainly very wide, flat and tricky horses and saddles only fit if they are stable and you should not need any sticky pad. Girth and choice of girth straps can be important as well. The pivoting you are describing sounds like the tree is too curvy from front or too nipped in or upright in the bars, where the stirrup bars are placed. Normally LM/Balance type saddles have wide flat bars so it is a surprising issue. Do get the fitter out to have another look.
