I posted the other day about my cob bucking me off (which we found is because his saddle does not fit).

I had the saddler out who confirmed that the saddle is too wide and is too forward cut for his shoulder - resulting in it digging into his shoulder and causing pressure points either side of his wither.

The past week ive used a friends saddle which is straighter cut and he goes fabulously in it! His trot is more open and hes not bucking and napping.

Had the saddler out who confirmed suspicions. He tried a secondhand VSD (not sure what make) on him which was spot on for his shoulder (however would have needed reflocking). This was to be £650 (but he wouldnt part ex my current one). Therefore ive went with a new one (im a sucker for new ones anyway), and hes offered a good trade in price for my current saddle.

We've went for a Jeffries Falcon VSD (which is not here yet). I'm really frightened that its not going to suite me when im jumping (dont do much though), we do alot of hacking and fast work and some dressage too. He did say that my horse wouldnt be able to get away with a normal GP saddle due to his shoulder confo, although conversely im 6ft 1 with long legs!!

Does anybody ride in a VSD and if so if you jump / hack is it OK?

I have a VSD for the same reason. We do everything in it and its fantastic. Gives you a much better seat than a GP anyway and no issues jumping in it.

You'll be fine!! Don't worry and look forward to enjoying your new saddle :)

I have a close contact jump saddle on my horse but the other day borrowed an ideal jessica dressage saddle for schooling. There was a jump up and the knee rolls felt so comfortable I thought, y'know what you could jump in this saddle! I even thought about those people who have dressage saddles but occasionally jump the odd 2ft6 jump/course in a dressage saddle and thought 'you could manage it'. Sorry bit random lol!

jumped plenty in a VSD saddle, would prefer to jump in a VSD to a GP but would prefer to jump in a jumping or close contact saddle than either. VSD is fine for jumping and IMO is more of a all-round saddle then the usual GP saddle.

I can sympathise with the saddle woes..

I'm sure you will love the VSD - I've got one and can do everything in it, including small jumps.

Saddler left me with some GP saddles to try which felt strange and bulky (and don't fit pony anyway) - think I'm just so used to VSD and WH type saddles now.

Thanks everyone!

Good to know that VSD's can be versatile! I just wish it would arrive now (well yesterday!), and hopefully it will fit like a glove for him and me! It will be handy as we are probably going to try RC winter dressage league this year (and i will be able to do prelim as he will hopefully not be bucking in canter now!)!!!

And no more bucking me off onto my head!!
