I let myself 'spook' at things in my lesson today; riders can spook more than horses do (Karl Greenwood has some quite funny videos on this) and I worked really hard to focus on what I was doing but got overwhelmed and had to come stand in the middle of the arena for a bit. Which is fine and in a backwards way is actually progress because I did this without beating myself up about it, just wish I had more regular opportunities to put the mindset stuff I have been learning about into practice when I am actually riding. Good that it is popping into my head when I am riding though instead of forgetting about it completely!
Also, another new instructor today (covering) being really positive about my riding while highlighting it is my mind getting in the way; to add to a growing list of instructors who have taught across the spectrum of riders/horses/levels not 'just' RS riders (including one who was quite 'old school' and definitely did not just say nice things for the sake of it!) who have given this feedback to me. If multiple, qualified, experienced people are saying this, I wish it would get into the bit of my brain that panics. Obviously it doesn't work like that though. That bit of my brain just needs to go stand in the middle of the arena and chill out for a bit!
