You need to find retirement type livery as a stop gap .
text all your friends everyone Horsy .
go to all the local tack shops with boards and look for ads .
Ring your farrier and your vet surgery .

Get on Facebook
Thank you - that’s a really helpful checklist to work through. Today is going to be very tough but I’ll try to hold everything together and make sure that my horse has somewhere to go.

I would love to, I really would. You’ve all been so helpful, I can’t thank you enough.

There is a bit more behind this story and I’ve tried to give the essential issue without revealing too much about what’s going on or where I live. The situation is already quite awful and if the landowner finds out I’m broadcasting it on a public forum he could make things even worse.

You don't need to post any details except something like ' Can any one help with a at least temporary accommodation for one (brief description) horse in xxxxxx area? Urgent due to unforeseen circumstances' But you really need to ask people in your area, as even extremely well meaning people hundreds of miles away are no real use to you.

There are various transporter Facebook pages or websites, it’s usually pretty easy to get a horse transported at fairly short notice.

I can’t help with the Scottish transporters but if you post on the regional board I’m sure others can. The only one I know of is called Seth Douglas, he transported my last horse up to Scotland for the new owners and by all accounts is very good.

If you don’t want to sell, don’t get panicked into sales livery. There are so many retirement liveries out there, just turn the horse away for the winter, get yourself sorted out and then move horse back when you are ready.

Gillies for transport, and yes- it’s out of your area, but Roses Bower in Northumberland do great grass livery- for youngstock, retirees, and general riding horses. Claire there is fab, Very knowledgeable and fair. As an interim measure it might work as well as any other grass livery, but you know he’s being kept an eye on.

Equine Animal Transport Services Ltd (EATS) - Liz Walker - lovely lady does short notice emergency trips and also has a livery yard in Strathaven 07949 393868
There is a track livery yard I saw advertised near Airdrie if that would suit you better, no need to worry about travelling for turnout? Can't remember the name but will have a look.

put an urgent wanted ad on all the horsey web sites in your area, private yards often have spare stables, google everything from transporters to livery yards, to studs, they often take long term boarders,

wish we could help as have have loads of room but too far away

You are, of course, spot on. Although the suggestions people have offered on here have been excellent. Following them has led to three other leads I’m chasing up today, as well as a phone call with a very helpful YO who had no space but suggested a few other people I could call.

I am looking through the regional boards for my area to find users local to me so if you’re reading this and then get a random message about livery then you’ll know the background!

Theres retirement liveries all over. I wouldnt limit your search to local areas. A friend in Newcastle sent hers to South Wales. You need to find somewhere safe for the pony while you work out your next steps. It doesn't need to be permanent.
Thank you. Again, I hadn’t thought of going a long way out of my area but you’re right, it’s now absolutely something to consider. I’m continuing to chase up possible leads today and will do another driving tour to go knocking on doors.

I’m not sure that organising sales livery is even an option in the 72 hours I’ve got left to move, so I’ll to have to find an interim solution anyway.

Thanks again for all of the top tips and ideas, especially about transport. Fuzzy Furry, I’ll definitely arrange to do it on Friday - thanks!

I’m going to see if I can get some sort of provisional transport booking sorted this morning just to give the transporters a heads up.

I know it's a scary prospect but selling is not your only option. It sounds like you've calmed down a bit and are now exploring all your options so that's good.

Could you visit some local farms and see if they could rent you a field in the short term, or even see if a local riding school / livery yard has a spare 'emergency' stable you could rent - no turnout isn't ideal but if all you need is a few days to find an alternative it's better than nothing. Call in every favour owed to you by horsey friends and take whatever you can get for now - including options a bit further away if necessary.

I’m not sure how far away but Tom myles at Howe does transport at short notice. That’s fife so maybe a bit more expensive but he is very good.

Hi, if you need any help finding livery/transport please feel free to PM me, I am Glasgow born and bred and have kept horses all across Central Scotland so a good idea of various different yards.
EATS as recommended above are great, there are also Brians Equine Taxi and Neigh Bother who both transport for you, or Fifth Gear in Airdrie will hire you a self drive box.
ETA the only sales livery I can personally recommend is Northern Equine Services but they are in Berwick so miles away.

Thanks so much again to everyone who’s taken the time to give their thoughts and advice. I’ve been blown away by how much help and support you’ve given and I can’t thank you enough.

As a result of following the ideas on here and knocking on doors/phoning friends of friends of someone I met at the feed store/asking the farrier, I’ve found a place on a nice yard that’s not a completely insane distance away. It might not be a long term solution but at least I don’t have to make a knee-jerk reaction.

Thank you again xx

So happy and relieved for you.

Like I said even if its temp being on a yard is a great way to build a horsey network then you never know what you'll here in the grapevine about spaces on yards closer to home.

Hope the next couple of days go smoothly and then Happy Moving Day ?
