Sales livery?

I have decided, although very reluctantly, to sell my young horse. I did put him up for sale about a month or so ago and he sold quite quickly but the buyer backed out (by that time I had lost all the phone numbers of everyone else who had called). I am pregnant, have a very busy full-time job, I'm tired, have another horse and too much to do generally and am not sure I can face the hassle of trying again to sell him - I found that so many people just don't turn up or bother to call back.

I was thinking of putting him in sales livery to get him sold but am worried about where he might end up as I won't have full control over who he is sold to. Has anyone done this and how did they find the experience? He's a lovely little horse without vices - I'm not just sending him to a dealer to get rid of him, and I do care a great deal that he finds a nice home. I am just struggling with finding the time and energy to do it myself.

I'd be really grateful to hear about any experiences you have, good or bad. And if anyone knows a reputable yard not too far away that would sell him for me please pm...

Thanks for reading / replying...

what about advertising him on 6 month loan with view to buy? that way you sell him so to speak and owners get to try him out first and you can vet him fully and what not see how hes being cared for as well then if you dont like it you can remove him but im sure you will find right person who will after 6 months or more depending how far you are will buy him

Personally I am very wary of these sales livery yards particularly when they also deal their own horses. Really they have no interest in selling cos the longer the horse is there the more livery they earn or the bigger percentage they take on sale.

My friend got stung by one of these set ups cos they didn't work the horse and so when he was tried out he was a maniac cos he'd been in so long, so naturally the buyers didn't buy.

I think the trick is finding the right place if there is one.

I am afraid that there are some right rogues and scammers out there so unless you can find someone that comes highly recommended from at least 4 people then don't touch them with a barge pole.

Can't recommend a yard as you are too far from me BUT my experiences of selling livery very positive. They assured me they would sell him honestly as they had their reputation tothink of.It was a mixed yard, some dealing, some livery, some schooling livery etc.I could go and see him whenever I wanted.Hel ooked happy and well cared for. He was exercised, hacked out, jumped as they wanted to find out exactly what he was like before selling him.He was sold in about a month.I had full control and could have vetoed the sale if I had wanted to. Actually he went to a brilliant home.I would do this again if I had to.
