Could someone possibly give me an idea on what Sapey novice is like? I have never competed at the venue and was wondering what other peoples views were on it, before i make the plunge and enter. Horse in question is confident jumper, yet to have an xc fault and will have had 2 Be100 runs before hand. We have jumped a couple of novices last season.

Thank you!

thought some of the current eventers would have answered you by now! I haven't been there for years so I doubt my information is of any use, but it was mostly straightforward in those days, a nice early novice. Either way I've bumped it a bit :o

I love Sapey as a venue - they are very protective of their ground so tend to cancel if the ground isn't quite right, their courses are well built and relatively straightforward IMHO (not that I have ever evented at Novice level!)

The course designer has changed this year and is now Lucy Wiegersma, so possibly slightly more of an unknown quantity this year?

The first thing to know about Sapey is it's a pig of a journey! Quite old fashioned, and it has been quite straightforward at all levels but the last time I walked the Novice I thought it had several tough questions, a curving line of open corners running down the hill, rail ditch arrowhead and the water was a decent question (I didn't run my established Novice horse as I felt the ground too hard!). That was the Sapey 2 a couple of years ago and I guess if the course designer has changed it is an unknown really. The layout is lovely and the showjumping fair.

I have never been, however if you have a look on shoestringeventing.co.uk, there is pictures of nearly every events XC courses on there! My go to for checking out any new courses!
