I think it would depend what sort of sarcoid and it's location. I had one horse with a small sarcoid on his chest just in front of his leg. It had the potential to become a problem and my vet surgically removed it, it never came back. I bought Rose with an occult sarcoid on her inner thigh, I've been giving her turmeric since I bought her and it seems to have disappeared. I think she was quite low when I bought her and have no idea if it was the turmeric or just the general improvement in her health and well being that has helped. She also developed a nodular on her midline just by her teats which the vet literally popped out whilst she was sedated whilst having her teeth done. They seem to be really odd things that sometimes just disappear but can also cause a real problem. With one that was small and in an innocuous place, I know my vet would suggest a watching brief.

Really appreciate these replies, all the years of having horses and never personally dealt with a sarcoid, this has been a great help x

My mare had three different types of sarcoids all of which required treatment as they were growing aggressively. Treatments were more limited as it was 22 - 18 years ago that she received treatment. One was cut out which left a lot of scar tissue and after a few years a nodular sarcoid grew on scar site, the others were treated with Liverpool cream which was the only other option given. Both nodular and occult sarcoids were treated and didn't reoccur.

First round of treatment she was only given pain relief on third and fourth applications of cream which I felt afterwards was a mistake. Second Liverpool treatment was two years later on sarcoids on different sites, pain relief was given from first application and she sailed through the treatment. She didn't need sedated for any of the applications and wounds took approx 3 - 4 weeks to be fully healed, only sign she had had treatment was that she had small bald patches where treated although they were far smaller than area treated.
