Scanning a mare in foal (Pricing.)

Hey there,

Need to have my rising 2 year old filly scanned at around christmas/november time.
Just wondering what experiances people have had with it?
She was running with the Jack since april, and will be scanned end of november.
Also, what were the prices like for a simple scan? And is there any chance of seeing anything?

I just paid £80 each for two scans but that was a shared visit so probably nearer the £100 mark if just one horse I should imagine.

If she's infoal there will be a good clear image at that stage of pregnancy. Mine had her second scan at 42 days for the heart beat and clearly a visible blob :smile3:

Is this your friends filly that was infoal when she bought it? Aged 14 months?

If so I thought she had already been scanned!

Everything crossed that the birth is trouble free and the filly suffers from no lasting damage.
 
Gymslip mum issue aside.......it costs HOW MUCH to get a mare scanned!?
OH is a sheep and cattle scanner, mares are the same procedure as cows but you need a different probe which costs approx £1200. He has been dithering over getting one as not sure if it would be worth it so think I will mention this thread.

Just as a game.....would anyone like to guess how much it costs to have a sheep or cow scanned??? There's quite a difference! :D

less than ten pounds would be my guess, but you don't often just go and scan one sheep or cow though I would imagine
 
I pay around £20 plus call out for a scan.

We do have stocks though - if we didn't we would have to travel to the surgery.

She isn't a mare, she's baby..and it is bound to get most normal breeders annoyed..hence my asking if you were trying to be provocative. Especially as you say this isn't the one who accidentally got in foal.

Your vet will stick his arm up the horses bum, pull out the poop at the entrance to the colon, have a feel around, then he'll slip the probe inside and scan what he sees. My mares all stand quietly to have scans. I have no idea how a yearling will react to this procedure though. I am confused that you've been so matter of fact about having your experts on hand but are asking us all about it. Just ask your vet how much he charges for scans and ask him to explain the procedure to you as you don't know what happens or how it happens.
