Troon beach is amazing and you'd be within reach of places like ingliston and rowallan and eglinton

another vote for aberdeenshire - only thing is, stay away from rivers and thick forests as they will gather midges whereever you are! The place i used to stay at had a pond and a line of trees - held midges. When i used to ride round the farm i would only come across midges as i went past the thick sections of trees and near marshy areas.

Another vote for Aberdeen, ment to have most amount of horses for population only second to new Market , very horsey.

I realise it isn't too rural but Maidens is lovely, you can see the sea, walk to the beach in a few minutes, there is a livery yard in maidens which is really good and you can hack to

Have to agree with this. Its a stunning beach and full of horsey people
