Scottish Eventing camp

Just caught up with this courtesy of DHB- been hibernating over Xmas and New Year!! Anyone who is up for a jolly here is more than welcome, we had fun last time. probably best to pm me if you are interested as I don't want to hi-jack post, and what sort of time. We do have a flat with plenty floor space for camp beds etc so no need to be in cold trailers, also don't forget the swimming pool and jacuzzi to get warmed up in!!

Maybe we should start our own North of England Event Camp thread and try and see what dates suit most people - do you have a preference for midweek or weekends MistaT?

running two on differrent dates or at different venues might suit one or the other. Brechin would be a LOOOOG drive for me. I am in Lanarkshire btw :)

Brechin would be 2hrs 30 mins maybe more with the trailer
Strathallen would be 1hr 30 mins
Strathearn would be 1 hr 40

so if one was say at brechin and one was closer I would go to the closer one as its less diesel and less driving :)

Nikki :D

I have only half read this thread so applogies if i have completed wrong end of the stick...
but if it at stathallan i would be there in a shot as horse can go home at night as only along the road so that would keep him secure (bit of a jumper out of the field! cannot be trusted away from home!) and its a fantastic BE course on good land. Cant do camping at brechin due to above comment in brackets but would consider travel for a day trip training. Stathearn is close to me but tbh - It would depend on the instructor provided and the XC isnt as good as the other two options, so I wouldnt be as keen (hence why never PMed trickiebell on the pre-season training there).

You would have to check with Anna but I'm 90% sure that Strathallan is not an option at that time of the year, too wet and the jumps are not out and all the sheep are still out. She said to me that she hoped to get the jumps out for the summer but since the BE event is no longer running I think this will depend on how busy she is with the rest of the estate etc

Hi all,

just to update you, I have spoken to Val at brechin. At the moment this seems like a good place to have a camp apart from Strathearn that Tricks is organising.

Also Brechin can't hold a camp until after their ODE so we are looking at dates towards the end of April/sometime in May. They also run a hunter trials and wondered if it would be worth combining it with that? what are your thoughts?

Also what are your thoughts on a midweek camp? it is very hard after March to find a weekend with no events in Scotland on and i don't want to clash if I can help it.

I think my Brechin one could also be moved to a mid season camp also if that would suit. Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks for looking into it.

May time would suit me fine as I will have transport all sorted by then, and I could do midweek if we have plenty of notice so that I can get it off work.

Will it be easier to get hold of trainers if it is done midweek?

Plus we might have got rid of the white stuff by May, possibly, maybe?

Good work ArcticFox- maybe midseason would be good to avoid clashing with Sarah's Strathearn camp end of March? Give folk the opportunity to get a few runs under their belt and then have something to work on? Could also be handy for those looking to step up a level.

And selfishly (and thinking positively...! ;) ), would maybe give Hopalong time to join in...! :p
