Any ideas what you would like? I bought one last month off of ebay and i got an isabelle dressage saddle for £320 and it is honestly one of the nicest saddles ive ever sat in - his last one was just under £1000 and i actually prefer this one!
The classifieds on the British Dressage website are a good place to start. If there is nothing suitable put a wanted ad on there. www.britishdressage.co.uk
tbh you need to try a few to decide what suits you, the right one will make it really easy to sit in the right position, the wrong one won't. trying them is the only way... it depends on length of femur etc. getting a saddler out who has a really big choice of dr saddles is worth the cost, even if you don't buy one from him/her you will know what to look for on the 2nd hand market. there are some great bargains out there btw.
fwiw i think the first 2 dr saddles i bought did me no favours, it took riding in quite a few before i realised what i actually needed...
yep try them out some are horrible to sit it. My german warmblood is flat backed and high withered so I have a morris and nolan Scandinavian dressage saddle, extremely comfy as Im quite short with a big bum lol
Please please please please please please get a saddle fitter to come out and find the saddle which best fits you and your horse. If you tell them the budget, and that you cannot go over it, they will find something suitable.
I had a saddle fitted 8 years ago for my lad, and, like an idiot never got it professionally checked - it looked ok to me, he didn't buck or seem in discomfort, so I was happy. I recently had a saddler out to look at fitting a new GP, and got her to look at his dressage saddle - turned out it didn't fit him at all, had created pressure points and was pushing him into a downhill way of going (thought that was down to my **** riding). The saddler came back, tried loads of saddles on him, and we have finally found one that fits. My bank balance is a lot lighter, but WOW - what a difference! My horse, that has been on his forehand for the past 8 years is now suddenly sitting back on his hocks and working like a powerhouse!
I would recommend you perhaps look at the Thorrowgood T6 saddle for your budget - they are around the £450 mark, and you cannot tell they don't look like leather, you can get them fitted to almost any horse (except mine ) and they are very comfy to ride in.
