Second weekend in December plans

Bit of a different one for us! We did evening SJ on Thursday and popped around the 90 and 1m quite sweetly... Then today I helped organise a Le Trec clinic at my livery yard - so 18 of us had le Trec obstacle lessons in the freezing cold, but it was good fun. I love doing extra curricular type stuff with my 5yo, and he's actually really very good at being given brain challenges. Since I'm a decent map-reader, we might attempt some Le Trec in-between eventing this summer!

I'm fine thanks guys - I'd briefly held on but apparently Bon doesn't like that.
The second time was even funnier. Stood on a loose rein having done our bit and cheeky pony with us had a little nap and came our way. Bon noped out sideways and left me in the dust. Then merrily trotted back to the arena we'd been in before ?

I went splat on the ice on my drive and fractured my wrist yesterday ? Thankfully just a splint, not a cast. Managed to ride today since the yard had thawed enough. Always grateful for the indoor school

Oof, that looked quite the splat!

Feel free to tell me to shut up, but your saddle does not look like it helps you very much...
You're right, it does not - I'm hugely missing my fairfax that I ride Charlie in. However it is what it is and I can't afford anything better for now - hopefully that will change before too long though. And for now I'll just have to get better ?
Oh @DressageCob that's a bummer for you - sending good healing vibes

Yep, if you could very significantly close the angle of your knee and of your hips, you would be in a *much* safer position. Which won't be impossible in your saddle, it just looks like it's making it a lot harder for you than it should be. Anyway, I'll shut up now - hope you aren't too sore tomorrow!!

It's appreciated, I've jocked up 2 extra holes and still feel like I want to be "tighter" if that makes sense, but I feel like I'm almost off the knee rolls.
Doesn't help being dinky tbh, I'm hoping I'll get a 16.5 on him without it looking too ridiculous when I do look - any brands you'd recommend?

You need a lot less block and a lot less seat. If you're going as small as 16.5, you need something that's practically entirely flat. Old pessoa saddles sometimes work in that sizing, or a pony Butet. Or a 17" Prestige as they come up small.

Seeing Michen's pics makes me feel depressed about moving here. What a stupid idea. Who thought leaving Colorado for f*cking Scotland was a good idea? Oh, wait? Me. I could have stayed in CO (and lived with my parents forever!). It's 0 degrees and dark at 1600. Fin wants to be feral, which is fair. Don't we all. Trying to be as happy as I should be with how well Hermosa has been taking her first rides.

But and this is important, soon it will be light til after 2100 and that's such a good feeling
Also there would be no Fin or Hermosa if you'd stayed there

That is true. Daylight until almost 2300 is pretty feckin' awesome. I guess the dark nights in winter is the price you pay.

I would have different horses if I had stayed. Probably Morgans or BLM mustangs (if brain damaged enough). Probably not living the PRE dream, though, because they seem expensive and hard to find over there.

It’s -15 from Tuesday and dark at 1650!

Rooni is being really good - the 2 time changes have quickly developed. I first asked a week ago and now we can get a row of 7. I’m thrilled with him.

I’ve been wiped out with flu twice and a 24 hour bug so not up to full fitness but I think he’s looking good :)

We’ve done a few clear rounds and he is getting better and more confident, he was really lovely to jump on Thursday for a neat clear in the 80cm.

Cute hack first thing yesterday and a day out in the field.

I had a great weekend with Nova going out to his first jumping lesson since his accident in July. I have literally jumped him twice at home and thought this would be quite a big ask for him but he really stepped up and was just awesome. Tonnes to work on, mostly my bad habits and not being disciplined enough in my training because he falls in and out in the canter and we lose any semblance of bend, but I am so thrilled he has his *ping* fully intact because he did really do himself quite a lot of damage on a hind leg

You can watch him and @LEC 's Insey here

Really enjoyed that - you're all looking good!

NM - you and Rooni look fantastic!

Roxylola - I hope you're not sore after that fall.

Everything is frozen here, including the arena and the road right outside the yard, so nothing happening sadly. Chilli's still out in his big field so getting plenty of movement. We're due to be doing a Jonty Evans clinic next weekend but will see if it goes ahead, if not he can start his holiday early (other than a possible short tinsel ride). Is it summer soon...?
