Secret life of cats...

Really enjoyed this programme, it should have been a bit longer because I was facinated by the patterns, our land backs onto the forest and we have a big farm opposite . one of mine is always out and about and loves to stroll round doing the horses and getting in the way on the veggie plot. As for the other great ginger lump dont think she goes far at all

Love your cat pics :)

However after listening to radio 2 this afternoon and the scientist concluding ' they did not do much ' after 20 mins I turned off :(

However the fluffy black and white cat looked like my Rosie :)

Here's my fellow .. He's a house cat as he is terribly nervous around people since I got him as a rescue

My evil cat he is a murderer of the first order and brings home something every day. He doesnt like people much either
He has brought everything from a fox cub to a mouse in the mammal kingdom and everything from a wren to a huge live crow, a cock pheasant and several water fowl

Oh! Death by cuteness alert!!

I laughed at the "shift" patterns some cats had... I am pretty sure that is how the cats in my cul-de-sac operate... I will be more understanding of mitzi's desperate pleas to go out now...

This is our cat Lori, the most interesting thing she's ever brought home was half a sausage from a neighbours bin, she's so lazy!

This is my parents cat Biscuit, sadly he was PTS in March. In his younger days, he go off wandering for hours and stay out all night. He was quite a hunter and would regularly bring home mice, birds, rats and even a live Moorhen once which he'd somehow herded into the kitchen!

Aw thanks Faracat that's him. He is very cute isn't he.

He has eyes just like the cat in Puss In Boots! He's gorgeous

Mine doesn't travel far, likes to spend full moon nights outside, has different sleeping places around the house and generally lives next door during the day - he terrorises all the other neighbourhood cats except one who is allowed into his house and to even dine with him on occasions!

I watched it and thought it was great!!:) I loved the bit with the *shock horror* 6 cats living in one house - maybe they should come to mine with 16 little reject ferals most totally unrelated and mostly neutered toms as they are the ones who roam and I catch in the cat trap!!:p
Do you think it was cold perhaps and the fact I had the electric blanket on maybe??!!:p

I think the bit about cats ruling the roost is about right!

It's a tough life!!

They also said once a cat has missed the social bit with people after 11wks old or something they stay feral - the black one in the pic was about 6-8yrs old when we caught him in a trap and was vicious as hell, he's the oldest I've ever tamed the usual being 1-2yrs old which take on average 6 weeks of poking and prodding to get tame!, took me 6 months to tame him but he's a lovely old fellow now and likes being brushed and made a fuss of!

I loved it! It was fascinating to see how they 'share' the territories.
Since we're showing ours, here's our stable cats:

Leroy, who's a year old and likes to eat baby bunnies :(

and Milo, who's ten months and is expert shrew-and-mouse catcher

ElleSkywalker - yes!! - Dot, Dash, Marvin, Fatblackcat, Minx, Kipper, Plop, Mew, Beans, Rufus, Bob, Big Mog, Fuzzyman, Burt, Muffin and Izzy. Although my Mum just refers to them all as Cat as she can never remeber who is who!!:p

Alexart- one word: WOW!

Your cats are gorgeous! I thought i had a lot of cats with my six but you have ten more than me!
How does it work? Do they live indoors with a cat flap? I seem to spend most of the day letting my boys in and out and back in again, then out, it's never-ending! Do you keep them all for life or do you re-home them once they are people friendly?

p.s I love the photo of the cats on the aga. :)

Alexart!
You really are a crazy cat lady :)
Such brilliant pictures - they certainly own you!

I really enjoyed the programme. Such a good experiment.
I learnt a lot about how they interact and look after their territory etc.

Some lovely photos posted in this thread.

Alexart - your cats are awesome and if I didn't know you were in the UK I would have sworn that was my Astro sleeping there on the tiles - the lovely grey cat.

Foreverbroke - Leroy doesn't look too stable in that first photo - what a character - just love cats they have such personalities - but have never been able to have more than one cat at a time - Astro would positively murder anyone who might even consider living here and my last cat left home for a week until I found a new home for a kitten I found wandering.

Astro had a lovely sister Alys who was sadly poisoned by a horrible man who lives near by -

Beautiful but gone RIP Catalyst
