The dentist is coming today and previously I have always used the vet to do our horses teeth as our mare needs sedating (mainly as the vet has no patience?) A friend recommended a dentist who is very good who gets the horse nice and quiet so they do not need sedating, but he was unavailable and passed me on to someone else, I have heard she's a very good dentist but I just found an advert for her and it says qualified vet able to sedate. How safe is it to sedate a mare with a two month foal at foot, I has seen her sedated before and I dont like it so would rather she didn't have to, but she isn't coming til 4 and has two others to do first, will she want to spend the time with her?Sorry to waffle!

I'd ring her and talk to her and see what she says. At least she will be aware that you don't want your mare sedated. You could also have a chat with your vet on the phone before she comes. I'm sure they won't mind.

I would sedate your mare if she has required sedating to have her teeth done before.

Having a foal at foot is no reason not to do this - there are no additional risks to her or the foal. If anything, having a young foal is likely to make sedation more necessary to prevent the procedure being dangerous for them or you.
