Does it not annoy you when you plan to meet up at a certain time to go out for a hack and that person shows up at that time?My three year old was tacked up and ready to go by the time they arrived and then they had to go and catch, tack up ect...only problem was I had to catch and tack up their ponies which i think is sooooo unfair. So an hour after we were supposed to leave the yard we set off and at the end of the ride everyone wanted to go for a canter and so that person, who is so self centred decided that we would go down a small gap instead of a big huge gap a further bit up.So all horses went down fine bar mine as she is still learning and was a bit spooked by the small gap but my horse is still learning leg aids so I couldnt ask her to go off on her own so my mum tried to come back for me but that selfish person kept going leaving me and my young horse on the road alone! She wouldnt let my mum past go get me and on top of that she was saying just leave her shell come when she sees everyone else go off but she knows fine well that my horse cant canter with a rider yet!!Aaaarrrgggg I hate selfish people!!Self centred!!!grrrrrr sorry rant :/ but what should I do every ride is pretty much like this when shes around!!!!

I probably wouldn't hack with her, its not worth getting upset on every ride. Can you hack just with your mum?

I probably wouldn't ride my 3 year old with a group of people like that, would be much better to be with just one other sensible rider/horse!

Is the 3 year old the one that is napping?

yeah i could hack with my mum and little brother but she always asks to come out with us or for us to come out with her and her son who is cheecky and very disrespectful to horses and my mum doesnt ride very much as she has joint problems but its nice sometimes to go out on hacks with lots of people as it gets the horses used to lots of noice but she really is annoying me now every hack with her is a disaster but its not very often i get to hack out so when an oppertunity comes up i feel we have to take it

no its my little brothers seven year old welsh mountain pony who is napping she was a brood mare before hand and has had 4 foals before we bought her but she was broken in(this is the 7 year old)

the three year old is still learning she doesnt exactly nap she just doesnt move as she doesnt understand what she being asked to do but shes coming along well and shes a very quick leanring whos willing to please :)

Sounds like your 3 year old needs some more schooling to learn the aids. She's a baby, plenty of time for group hacks in years to come. Right now she needs to build up her trust in you and learn to listen to her rider. Give her lots of positive experiences on the ground and under saddle and just take things easy. When it does come to hacking again leave that person behind, an accident waiting to happen by the sound of it.

I used to ride with a person that was never, ever on time. I got really fed up with waiting for her.

The one time I was late, unavoidably, she phoned me and demanded to know where I was as she wasn't going to wait around for me!!

I never rode with her again.

This^^^^^^
A three yro needs to be taken slowly not ridden out in a large group with inconsiderate riders.
You need to start thinking about where you are going with this pony, before you have a problem on your hands.
Hacking is all part of a youngsters education, but until you get the basics right, you will onley confuse her more.
Take things slowly, don't be in a rush, and onley ride her out if it is safe for both of you!

do some people really not hack their 3 year olds? When i'm breaking horses I establish stop, go, left and right in the school and then hack for 6 months, then winter off.

Yes on short controled rides, acompanied by one other rider, who knows the score and who will go at the pace i dictate.
Also quite lucky in having one place that is enclosed, but still offers road, tracks , grass and hills.

I'm one of those people who's late for just about everything :( I just can't seem to get it right - either end up ridiculously early or late. But I'm extremely quick at getting ready and getting off the yard, which helps a bit :o And, of course, I don't mind if people stand me up / are late etc - it would be hypocritical if I did :D

But other than that, she sounds rude and no 3 y/old needs that sort of additional stress. Best of avoided in future :)

id prefare to hack and skl as it gets her used to everything and also gets her out of the skl which she mite get bored off x
