A couple of weeks ago we went to view a horse for OH. Was slightly further afield than we'll normally go (due to past wasted trips) and would mean a 5 hour round trip. But i'd asked everything we needed to know and seen video so we decided was worth while.
Got there, everything all good. Seen her ridden then OH rode in the school and took her for a short hack then i had a quick try in the school when he got back. We agreed would get back to the seller when we got back and would chat about it on the journey home. So we chatted and OH liked her so later that evening he agreed price with the seller and said would arrange vetting (which seller had said was fine and given us days she could do) and come back to her with day/time. Got a text on the Monday asking if we had sorted vetting, OH replied and said all organised for the Thursday, just had to ring the vet back with the sellers home address as they said they needed that along with the yard address. Then nothing!! No answer to texts/calls and emailed on the very slim chance was a problem with her phone - nothing!!!! Had to call the vets and cancel Wednesday lunch time otherwise we'd have been charged for the vetting. I text one last time and said hope everything was ok but if she'd decided for whatever reason not to sell to us could she just let us know one way or the other. Never heard anything back!! The ads were then pulled that day too so can only presume that someone bought that didn't want a vetting.

I was really annoyed about it initially, but now think that they clearly had something to hide so at least all we wasted was a day and not money for vetting too. But it does annoy me that there seem to be less and less genuine people out there. If you've got the balls to screw someone over then at least have the balls to tell them too!!!

Anyone else had this happen?

I didn't get that far; but I had at least two who I had arraged to go and see, both more than 2 hours away, then suddenly up and disappear, no repsonse to emails or texts.

It is incredibly frustrating...

But hang in there! I eventually found my new girlie and she was only 30 minutes away.

That is so frustrating! A text would have been courteous, better still a call to explain.

The first horse I viewed when looking a few years ago was a gorgeous 16h coloured cob. I was 'first to view', got there and someone else was trying him out! She wanted him, so the seller tried to show me an unbacked youngster. He then phoned the next day to say I could have the cob but when I said I wanted a 5 stage, he said he'd rather re-advertise. I put the phone down, there was no way I was buying without a vetting.

Thats the thing that was so annoying, i gave her an out on the text, she could have just text back and said 'sorry, sold to someone else'. Sure, i'd have still been a bit miffed but nothing i can do about it!! She didn't even need to physically talk to us. But could at least have just said.

I absolutely fell in love with a horse for sale from the photo a few years ago. Phoned up agreed a time to view which the owner cancelled due to work commitments. Made a further 2 appointments both cancelled, one the morning we were going to view. Emailed phoned text no replies finally a week later she text back to say she had decided to keep him. She only had to say!!!

I was once an hour into a journey to see a horse when the vendor rang up and cancelled, saying 'its started raining and i don't ride in the rain.'
Couldn't believe it! She must have been very odd.

This is so annoying. I once, many years ago went to view a pony and loved it. It was perfect for what I needed at the time. Called up the seller to let her know the date we had arranged for vetting to be told they no longer wanted to sell the pony! I remember thinking could they not have called me and told me that the moment they decided! So disappointing.

Chin up though! I always think there's some kind of fate in these things and if it didn't work out then there was a reason and it wasn't meant to be.

Well not a horse! But mate of mine was on 3 hr journey with a mechanic to see and try a lorry, she arrived to deserted yard, no one there but a kid brushing yard, hung about for an hour then owner came and said oh sorry we sold that few hours ago I've just delivered it to new owner... Miffed doesn't describe it.!! However on way back drove past a riding school and saw a signe "lorry for sale" so looked at it and it was good nic so she tried it and bought it there and then.. Less than first one and its still going strong...
Sometimes things are meant to be as they happen..

Saw a horse I really liked, went back next day with 10% of the deposit only to be told that he was actually £1k more!!! Really!?!?!? I think not you shafters......... Gutted me but I walked.................Well actually I drove and that was 2 days driving of 5-6 hrs altogether WASTED!! Grrrrrr

Not quite that bad, but I places a wanted ad for a horse and got a phone call from someone who sounded genuine enough. I asked them to send me some videos as I'd like to see how a horse moves before making a long and potentially wasted journey. Was told this was fine and waited and waited for the video. I emailed the seller (who emailed me photos) who kept saying she was going to send them and never got back to me and stopped answering my emails. I got the impression they may have found a new home for the horse more locally, but why waste my time when you got in touch with me in the first place?

Also contacted a lady who was happy to full loan her mare but was told she was moving house and couldn't arrange a time to view the mare for the next couple of weeks. Noticed on her Facebook she had already moved so I was already suspicious. Emailed her a couple of times to arrange meeting up and got an abrupt message from her saying her YO won't allow people to come up and loan horses so sorry, can't go ahead with it, even though she had agreed for the mare to move yards?

I've met a surprising number of time wasting sellers and it's extremely frustrating!

Eek sounds like you've had some horrible times :(
Nothi g too bad for me except the seller who called me a time waster she. I said "no thanks" to a horse. I had specifically said I wanted a friendly, personably horse as my novicey husband so stones does up for me when I'm working... At the viewing the horse tried to bit me, then tried to kick my RI when she felt its legs!!!!!

But on the other hand- I'm selling my gorgeous ID mare at moment and have sent her to sales livery as i can't face the endless "can we have her on loan" phone calls!!!
